Suspension observations

Postby paul w » 18 May 2008 03:08

having put a few miles on the clock after rebuilding my auto's axle,
diff and rear sus.(poly bushes/uprated springs)and rear brakes,i can
now appreciate the improved handling.Previously the car would feel
nervous driven hard thro'bends.Felt like the rear end wanted to let
go into the hedge/ditch/brick wall etc.
Now it is more controlled, allowing more speed accelerating out of
bends,without pitching or rolling.O.K.the ride is a little firmer,but
certainly inspires more confidence when pushing on.
the down side is that the front sus.is now the weak link! The car
dives a bit under braking and the steering is a little heavier than
before. Also feels like the front tyres are not holding the bends like
they used to.
I can't afford to line Bob an' Si's pockets any more for the mo',so
the front struts will have to wait!An anti dive kit may be a cost
effective mod to consider tho'.
So,to fit poly bushes and uprate the wedges suspension makes the
TR7 safer and more controllable which can't be a bad thing, can it?!
Maybe an idea to fit rear disc's to the 2 litre...only joking Henk!!

I made my own 'anti-dive' kit - from aluminium. Cost me nothing - and it makes a very worthwhile improvement to the front end behaviour - improves the 'turn-in' nicely. Well worth the little time it took to make the blocks. Can't say it makes the slightest difference to the diving under braking!
