Here’s where to discuss anything specific about your standard(ish) car or something that applies to the model in general.

float stuck

Postby GRANTDCLARK » 16 May 2008 00:29

ANY SUGGESTIONS AS TO WHAT IS THE QUICK WAY TO GET A FLOAT IN THE CARB UNSTUCK. THE HOLE ( SIZE OF A SMALL PENCIL ) BESIDE THE INTAKE HAS FUEL COMING OUT OF IT WHEN THE CAR STARTS. THE FRONT CARB SEEMS TO WORK FINE.

THANKS FOR YOUR THOUGHTS.

May not be a stuck float. Could be a leaky inlet valve or if you have an electric fuel pump, the fuel pressure is to high. No more than 3 lbs of pressure.

HUM? Looks like your caps lock key is stuck though!

If it is truly just a sticking float, tapping on the carb's bowl with the plastic handle end of a screwdriver will shake it free.

It isn't likely, though, unless the car has been sitting for a long time. Trash on the needle, or a leaking float are common culprits for fuel running out the overflow tube.
