Front Plates

In New Jersey, we are required to have front plates on our cars. Does anyone make a bracket for the front of a TR7?

I used the three middlemost screws securing the bumper skin. Made a bracket out of stainless in
the form of a piano hinge. It holds the license plate hanging under the rear of the bumper, easily
readable at 'in town' speeds. However, when speed increases the plate is pushed backwards/up-
wards and disappears. At roughly 55kph/35mph it is all but gone - improving highway cooling
and fooling the speed cameras...
Honestly, who but a speed camera would be genuinely interested in reading a <u>front</u> license plate
<u>at speed</u> anyway?! [8D] [Making the rear one disappear is something I haven't solved yet...]

Not a single extra hole in the skin and/or the bumper bar. = No extra risk of rust...

Go down to you friendly Dodge/Chrysler dealer and buy the front license plate holder from a Neon. You will need three long sheet-metal type screws, I believe. You will have to cut two extensions from some 1/4" tubing to go from the bottom two holes to the face of the bumper, about 1 1/2" long.

Place the holder at the top edge of the bumper and fit the top screw. Now slide one of the spacers behind the holder and align it to one of the bottom screw holes. Install the screw. Repeat with the other spacer. Slide plate under retainer tabs and screw into place.

My Spider has never had a front liscence plate (California) but we are required to have one here in BC. I was going to fabricate a mounting plate out of a sheet of aluminum and bolt it to the side of centre (no airflow obstruction) by using existing bolts to left that exist under the bumper (right were jclay has his LH fog light). Because of the angle of front bumber the fold would be at an angle to have the plate facing 90 degree forward. A template would be neccessary to get the angle right.

Before I completed it I heard that head of collector plate division of ICBC (provincial insurer) state that if no provision was available for front plate on a collector car it as not neccessary so as not to deface a collector car. Certainly don't want to "deface" my TR7.

When I bought the US dhc just over a year ago it came with the licence plate underneath the bumper...

When I drove the car for the first few weeks the temperature gauge kept going up and down depending on speed. After I put the plate to the normal European location no more problems, temperature remians rock steady once the engine is on temperature ...

The North American plates are a real pain to fit to the 7 due to their size (too tall). You European and Aus guys have it good with your small plates. I live in the same province as F1Spyder but don't have my car on collector's insurance so technically I need to have a front plate. I don't want to drill holes in my unmolested bumper or block the air intake below so the plate sits behind the driver's seat. I got pulled over by the Mounties the other night and figured I would get a ticket but the officer just wanted to talk cars. It turned out he was an MG Midget owner.[:D] Lucky break for me!

Mine is simply glued on the front bumper with double side tape - seems solid enough so far!

OK, mine has an old rusty bracket (would clean up nicely) that is bolted up the the underside of the front bumper. If you want it, it's yours.

I don't know where it came from, it was just on the car when I got it. And it's pretty solid.
