Hi,
Have anyone ever noticed on the rear of the radio console (you will have to remove it to see this) that there is a 'ghosted' square area about the size of a electric window switch [?] Something for the future that never happened [?]

I don't think is was with the future in mind, I think is was more like the V8 engine, designed for it originally, but dropped from the final production model !!

Leccy windows were definately something planned but like so many of the planned improvements to the cars, they never actually made it into production. Those knock outs in the centre panel were for the switches I believe.

I think our good friend Chris T has a genuine factory electric window kit so might be able to throw some more light on this.

I have a Heritage certificate that says my car was fitted with electric windows at the factory. I can bring it to Stoneleigh if anyone is interested.

Would be good to see [:)] I would imagine that poss Ambassadors switches would be about the right size [?] SD1 would be too big and knowing BL it would have been a 'parts bin' set up!

I have the kit switch installed in the "Factory" location. The marks for the holes were under the panel.You can see one in the bottom right of this picture.

Paul-love the clip! I haven't watched Red in years,but he's just as funny as the first time I'd seen him.

The window switch location thing...now it makes more sense in regards to that knee pad/bolster thing (I couldn't figure out why they just didn't make the console narrower if there wasn't a lot of knee room instead of slapping a pad on there. It wasn't like there was anything there-hey wait a minute:we can put <i></i>window switches<i></i> there in the future! Cool!)[:D]

Would be nice to have power windows, but i believe that the wire loom is not prepared for power windows. So if you want to install them you need to add some wiring under the dash and in the doors.

Or do the late build models have wiring for power windows? early models certainly not!

The kit comes with all the wiring needed. I haven't installed the motors yet, but it all appears to be there.

There once were complete (after market) electric window winder kits you could buy from Moss.
Part number was WPA7001. [WPA7002 was the keyless entry kit, WPA7003 was the central door
locking kit, WPA7004 was the remote boot release kit and WPA7005 finally was the full alarm kit.
They were all independent - and at the same time interlinked if the owner wanted so:
For instance the Alarm can close the windows (good idea in a coupé maybe) and lock the
doors when it is activated... The whole shebang was something like 600 pounds back in the
nineties when I bought mine.] The power window kit consisted of entirely new window winder
mechanisms - you tossed the old ones, just kept the glass channels if I remember correctly,
and then fitted the new door interiors...
