Price drop of TR 7

as you do i keep an i out for a good personalised number plate with the obvious one being TR 7 which i believe runs around on a Aston Martin

so it was of interest to see that it's asking price of 85K has recently been reduced to 55K what a bargain eh! [B)]

that's only the number plate mind it doesn't includ a fixing kit

[8 whole cylinders worth of punch to ram the world through the windshield and out the rear view mirror. Car & Driver]

It is on an Aston Martin. I saw it when I was visiting Birmingham earlier this year. The Aston pulled into the petrol station next to me.
It did cross my mind at the time to ask how much they wanted for the plate, but I came to my senses before I opened my mouth, realising whatever it was, I couldn`t afford it.

There was a nice number in the DVLA auction last week - "WED9E" with a £900 reserve. I placed a postal bid (do not tell my wife!) but did not win. It went for £2,100!(did anyone on the forum buy it by any chance?)

That's the plate that used to be fitted to my dads TR7V8. It was transfered to the owners other car,
the Aston Martin DB7, prior to the car changing ownership [and its subsequent export to Sweden].
I think I have a picture of the '81 TR7V8 with the TR 7 number plate somewhere - if I find it I'll put it
here. Found it... This is the way the car looked before the lady over in UK sold it. All black with an
air dam/skirt kit, no sun roof, dark red leather trim etc. Regards /Odd

The number TR8 was for sale for £15,000 last year, is this the only time a TR7 has been worth 4 times as much as a TR8.

Hi All,

I saw a TR7 with the 'TR7' plate on it many years ago, I had just been to Rimmers (I was young and naive!) and was just heading away (many pounds lighter!!) when it came speeding past me almost like a scene for a magazine photo shoot! I'm going back 10 years or more, but I think it was a darkish blue colour, possibly Fixed head Coupe ?

I used to have TR-7 as my number plate on my (now in pieces) tr7. On my current car I have TR-VII (someone took TR-7 in the period I didn't have a registered Tr7).

I live in the Northern Territory Australia so they only cost AUD$75.That's about GBP30...

My Spitfire's plate is TRIUMPH (yep, if requested, we can have seven letters/numbers)

I keep lookin'at TR7 209.But at 3.5 grand thats all i
can afford to do.I coulda'got a Grinnall with a floor
for that amount!

Your governments must figure you've got way too much money. Here we can have any plate we wanted (6 digit/letter plus - or space) that's not taken for $75.00. I'll stick to my collector plate number and it's $200/year insurance thanks anyways.

I have TRIUMPH8 plate for my black car and had PREPROD8 for my coupe..still have the plate just lost the car. Over here they cost $200. Best one I ever saw was a lime green hemi Roadrunner with a blower sticking out of the hood....plate SAYWHEN.

it is a small Tr world we live in [:D]

i looked at that car just over a year ago on ebay it was owned by a swedish student over here who was going back to sweden and was going to take it with him if he didn't get his asking price, The Red interior was very well done if i recall rightly but he was asking just to much for my liking at the time

Dad bought it from him when the waiting period of twelve months for an 'immigrant’s car' had been
safely passed - with an undisputable margin of 72 hours... [8D]

And his asking price was OK, we think.

[Well, most any price would have been OK, since an 'immigrant’s car' is exempt from just about any
and all limiting regulations! For instance the only emissions limit it has to meet is 'a maximum of 7.5%
CO' in the exhaust sniffer. Tough limit indeed! When it was checked during its annual inspection, on
November 2nd, CO was 0.6%! And we hadn't even tried to tweak it... An 'immigrant’s car' is so
exempt from everything that it's fully possible to fit almost any engine, as long as the number of
cylinders aren’t altered etc etc. What a feeling! Free at last!!!... [:D] ]

btw:
A personal plate in Sweden cost SEK 6000 [~UKP 444] for a 10 year period. You can have any combination
you want between 2 and 7 positions [space is counted] - as long as it's not taken already OR looks like
the ordinary 3 letter+3 digit license plates. TR8 is still available just as TR7V8, but unfortunately TR7 have
been taken already - so we cannot take dads cars look fully back to its UK appearance.

I just checked;
most TRx -plates are still up for grabs. The only ones taken are TR3, TR3B and TR7. Also taken is HERALD...

Our system is completely different. The licence plate number generally stays with the car. You can buy and sell numbers, but this is a private transaction, although there is a fee of £85 to transfer the number.

Of course, every time the year number changes (every March and September) the government keeps all the 'interesting' (and rude) combinations and auctions them off (but not the rude ones). You can also have your own combination (two letters, two numbers, three letters in the current system) for a fee, if it's not already taken, rude (so I couldn't have AR53OLE), or makes your car look newer than it is.
