Now that photobucket is no longer useful what are other people using instead.

I have just started posting again now that work on getting my 7 back on the road has resumed?

I have started using a site called 'Imgur' it is pretty much like what PB user to be and the good thing is that it is free. Not too sure how long these free sites will last until they go the same was as pb buy for now all is good. The picture in my signature is hosted there.

Probably a stupid question, but here goes,

Am trying to put an advert on this site, and need to upload photos. I've read the above, and registered with Imgur, and ideas how to

1) Get photos onto Imgur, are they private or can anyone see them.
2) Get photos onto here.

Please make any instructions easy, as I'm not the most computer savvy.

Thanks
Phil

Hi there, sorry for the delay in posting this reply. This is how I am using Imgur and adding photos to this forum. Others may have a better way and if so please post, but this is working for me for the moment :-)

I never think of any question as a stupid one.

How to use Imgur rather than Photobucket:

1. Create an Imgur account
2. Log in and from the homepage click on your username in the top right hand corner of the screen,
3. Click on albums (if you do not have an album already, just on "New Album" and create one). I have one called TR7 Forum Photos,
4. Drag and drop the image that you want to post into the new folder,
5. When the selected image shows in your Imgur folder, "Post Privacy" can be seen on the left side, above Delete Post,
6. Click on "Post Privacy" and select "Hidden"
Hidden will show - Your posts are hidden to anyone coming to your profile, but can still be accessed via the direct URL.
7. Click Save
8. Right click on the image and select "Copy image url"
9. Paste this url into your TR7 Forum post (with the standard url brackets) as you would the photobucket url

Then you are done.

Hope this helps. If you need anything else, please feel free to message me.

Thanks for that, I'll have a crack at it later today, and if all else fails I will summons the child back from uni to sort it.

On a number of other sites I frequent, I can loaf photos straight from my computer to the sites.

Why can we not do this?

Obviously this is something to do with the various Forum programs, but why do we not use one of these? Are those particularly expensive?

If photos were loaded directly into this site, it would save the issue we have now of broken photo links.

i inherited the site with lots of problems .... although the appreciation for spending £1000's rescuing it has been sadly lacking ....

I am sure not Christopher, its just that many do not know that you have been behind the rejuvenation. It is appreciated by all those who are aware, to others its just another forum as they do not know.

At no point did any of the posts that I have read or added indicate that people do not appreciate the efforts of this site. Questions were just being posed to try and prevent the situation we have now where pictures are not being shown in posts due to the silly approaches taken by sites like PB.

I personally think I have found a good answer to this in the form of "Imgur", but for how long I do not know. Other may have other sites that allow external hosting, but again how long for.

Pictures for me personally are very important in replies as there sometimes can be 20 names for one thing and I get lost.

Comments about the photos in posts are not a dig at anyone they are just trying to keep this site up to date and save users from migrating to others such as FB.

This may have already been posted elsewhere on the forum but I haven't noticed it - this fix that I saw on another forum brings back the photobucket pix...

If you're using Google Chrome, go to the three dots on the right side of the screen and click them. A drop down should appear. Hover your mouse over "More Tools," and when the next drop down appears, click on extensions. Go to the link towards the bottom that says "Get more extensions." In the search box, type "Photobucket Fix," and hit enter. Click the install button and once it's done, you should be able to see photobucket pictures again.

For FireFox users, click on the three bars on the right side of the screen, then click on add ons. Click search for "photobucket hotlink" and click install. Same result.
