TR7/8 RHD Sun Visors Inc Mirror

Postby UKPhilTR7 » 13 May 2015 12:22

For some time I have been looking for some new black sun visors for my TR. I tried some of the main suppliers and they could not help, due to them being out of stock. I noticed yesterday on ebay yesterday that there was a company selling new blue ones. So I contacted them direct and they said that they can make some new black ones for the same price £54

Not trying to promote this company as I have not used them, but I thought it may be an option for anyone trying to replace or get new ones and all other places seem not to have them:

I think I am correct in saying that Aldridge have use of the original tooling for the sun visors, although the tooling is owned by the TWOA. The TWOA had a batch of LHD visors made but obviously are not that interested in RHD versions so Aldridge are able to sell them direct for RHD cars.

I believe they only make the DHC visor at present (i.e. same colour both sides) but hopefully they will be able to do FHC ones soon. The correct material is the problem I think.

Aldridge are THE people to talk to about the sun visors and I have a new set of RHD blue ones on order from them.
They also do lots of other trim stuff to order. Some of the recent TV restoration programmes use them to make stuff as well.

The headrest reference is probably left over from their other eBay ad for re manufactured blue check seat covers. The headrest changed shape along with the square door lock pulls. IIRC it was when production moved to Canley.

For over £400 a set I'd probably go for leather seat covers......

I have been looking for a set of black sun visors for a bit now and don't think I am too worries if they are for the fhc or the dhc. I know that the fhc are two tone, but for me, if they only come in one colour that is fine. When I come back over Xmas I will be going to see them for sure and ordering a set. I have a good set of tan ones on at the moment but want to change to black, as I have changed the whole of the interior to black.

Had given the vinyl paint some thought, but it does seem a somewhat retrograde step to acquire a nice new set of sun visors and then spray them! I have considered just replacing mine with black ones. The vinyl on my original ones is in excellent condition but the innards have disintegrated. I know some owners fill them with spray foam but from my recollection of how other sun visors are constructed it is important that the metal frame is clean to allow the foam to adhere and this would be difficult if you were trying to minimise damage to the vinyl when you removed the now powdered original foam. I have to say I can't quite figure out why the supplier can't make them in tan, if they make them to order. supercass

Mildred did a thing in the Workshop Manual where she used so sponge to refill them and made a pretty good job of it.

I can order a few in bulk if wanted - this will mean we can donate a little to TRDC Club funds - price will be £50 pair including postage.

Keen though I am to obtain some new tan ones I think I may just purchase some black ones, there is no indication of when or if tan ones will be available. supercass

Thanks for reply. I can't make an informed decision about this as Mildred seems to have erroneously placed the pre operation picture as the finished result so it seems there is no photo of the finished product. supercass
