Center console trim

Postby nick » 02 Dec 2014 16:59

On the TR7 there is a trim piece just above the radio. It houses the green lenses that shine down on the heater controls. On the early cars (mine is a 1976) this piece does not overlap on top each side the of the center console leaving a large gap which leaks light from the bulbs. The newer cars incorporate a better design that does overlap and closes this area off leaving no gaps. There is a good picture of an early car on Facebook at the below link. Has anyone come up with a mod to close off the gaps?

Not familiar with different styles but a while back there was a post about a company that does leather pieces to cover various parts of the dash with choice of leather and stitching colour. That might cover the area you are referring to. A site search might turn it up.

I would do my dash in black leather with red stitching except it would disqualify my collector plate and accompanying insurance status. Would transform the look of the interior and even get rid of some of the squeaks rattles (not that they are obtrusive just notice them on rough road).

I have one of each style and they are not interchangeable. I think they could be with a minor mod. The Rimmer catalog only shows the old style trim as part number XKC2902PA. Of course you can't get that one either because it's NLA. It is amazing how chintzy the old style is with these huge gaps where the piece mates with the center console. The designer of that part should have had his design license revoked[:D]
