White Lettering at heater/fan controls

Postby troydeon » 16 May 2014 01:21

I have seen some restorations where the white lettering in the heater/fan control area looks mint.
How do you revive these white letters?

Try going to a Hobby Lobby store to visit their model airplane paint department. There you can buy 'Opaque Paint Markers' in various colors made by DecoColor.

They are easy to use and durable enough for interior applications. There is a store at 5425 S.P.I.D. or at 4101A U.S. Highway 77.

I've also seen it redone in vinyl graphics

I think that the vinyl graphics may be best for me, I think that I would really botch it up with the paint pen. I'll check hobby lobby for that. The 8's look good but I want to sharpen up the 7's...

Yes, of course you'll slop excess paint around the base of the arrows on the levers. After all, you're just a human. The trick is to remove the dried paint with a razor blade and a Q-tip soaked in paint remover to sharpen up the image.

Is it going to be necessary for you to drive all the way up here for me to show you how to do it?

Mildred, your posts and particpation in this forum always make it so enjoyable... I am at my desk really laughing out loud... If I do go the pen route and botch it up I may go for that drive... hahaha...

I thought he was talking about the lettering on the heater/fan console as opposed to the actual knobs. What have people done to replace this lettering?
