Seat Covers?

My upholstery is in awful condition, and I don't currently have the spare cash to re-cover them properly. Does anybody know of any seat covers that look half way decent?

I think the cloth Triumph logo covers in the VB catalog look like burlap sacks, and the fake lambskin ones look like they fit a little better, but I am not loving those either.

The TR7 seats look a little small to me and I am afraid that anything I might pick up at the auto parts store would be loose and baggy...

My experience with those generic seat covers is that they are baggy but you can easily tuck the excess behind and under the seat making it look top notch. Definatly worth the few dollars for a temporary fix.

Actually, the cloth slip over covers in the V-B catalog are made of denim and are VERY durable. They fit snug, are machine washable, and last a very long time. My first set lasted some 15 years and the second set on now have been there about 7 years.

I recommend them.

I had a trim shop redo the center section of the seats in the original material and they look great. $250 a seat.

Nick, I believe that was done with my seat covers as well as the muti stitching on Spider seats doesn't last long. None original material was used and I think it looks as good or better, understated. They were done pre 1985 when she bought the car and at 100,000 miles (less what ever it was when they were done) they still look like new.

You have to be careful though as I saw a car from Calgary that was done a year or two years ago and the UV already had them coming apart like they were thirty years old. They looked good for a year though.[:p]

my local trimmer glass shop wants the same as Jclay quoted ....and he found something very close in look to the original material.
Thing is once you add in diaphrams ,and maybe a foam of two, it can easily be 600 to 700$
I little rich for my family budget right now , plus I'm saving for a roof which needs to be done first .........

So I got these for now from the local Wally-mart.

Imho they don't look to bad , and atleast clean up the interior a tad.

A friend referred me to his upholstery guy who is supposed to be good and pretty cheap. I need to get over there for an estimate, but I expect it will still be over my budget.

My impression is you're after something cheap, cheerful, durable, and decent looking. If, however, you are in fact going down the restoration road with all it's serious costs, then the upholsterer route may be the way to go.

Here are two photos of my covers peeled back to illustrate their use.

Photo 1 is of the top cover folded back to show the older cover.



Photo 2 shows the bottom cover folded back to show the original seat cover.



These covers are made by Coverall and are a heavy weight denim. They are sold thru several outlets including V-B.

Have you considered sheepskin covers? The better ones are very up market, but there are some low price generic ones available.

They are warm in winter, & cool in summer. I put a set on my second 7, & they were still as new a couple of years later. The only problem was finding a set small enough to fit our small seats well, but great when found.

Mildred - Your covers look WAY better than the picture in the VB catalog...

Hasbeen - the link to Amazon that I posted above looks like a pretty decent quality lambs wool cover, and one of the reviewers put them in a 1977 280z, which I can't imagine has very big seats. Could have potential[:)]
