Not being from US but having similar registration structures (as opposed to UK), I don't think there's anyway from a DMV perspective. You know the names of previous owners. You could try to contact them and see if they have any documentation etc. that they may have saved and not got rid of. Some people have this stuff (hoarders) and some people don't (neat freaks). In my case I had original window sticker, booklets, bill of sale from original owner to 2nd owner. I was able to track down 2nd owner (1985-2006) through internet searches, meet up with her when going through Sacramento and have a couple hours talking about her ownership/experiences with the car.

You can get a heritage certificate which doesn't tell you much more than you can glean from the car itself. It does gave a seal however.[:p]

What would be really good would be to get service records from dealership/garage but with record keeping as it was (precomputer), age of cars and the fact that most of these dealerships are probably not around any more that would be a pipe dream for sure.

In the US it is impossible to look up a VIN from '80 or older. They went to a standard 17 digit number making older ones invalid. I've not found a way to track older vin's in my online searches. The info has to be out there somewhere, probably in an old box In a musty basement. The real problem is paying someone government wages to digitize all that old info, not gonna happen!

Thanks for the response guys.
I was hoping that there may be someone who was familiar with these names, it's what's on the import certificate/authority as the previous owners, but that's all. I find that once you have had one, you always seem to have a tr7/8 in your life in some way, shape or form.
Cheers[:)]
