HI Guys its been a while.
I see you guys have been busy.
I 've been trying to get my financial life back in order, I haven't been very successful , Though of selling the tr7 <b>but</b> have been able to keep it .
I'm now back working on it.
The throttle cable was rubbing against itself inside the cable so I changed it with one from Victoria British in about 10 minutes of driving it ended rubbing and breaking also. Mine is a EFI tr7 from 1981 . ANY Ideas???

Apparently the older (original style) cables had an interior layer to reduce friction that the newer cables don't. I got a bicycle inside brake cable as a spare in case mine breaks (complete with locking nut for one end, the other has a ball). I haven't really seen how it will work yet as it's low on to do list. Perhaps others can suggest source for quality cable.

Don't know why the other would break so quickly as there's just one butterfly valve to operate and one return spring. Did it break at the valve end or in the middle. If they are clamped too tightly and the end you can crimp them so they have a fail point.

Glad you didn't have to sell the car after all the work you put into it.

Monica had the same problem at Triumphest last year. She found one in Cali and had that installed. Unfortunately, Her throttle stuck partly open and burned up the clutch getting to the shop.

Oh, Sweetie, that is a memory I will not likely forget. [B)] TenCate's car had a similar issue and was replaced with the same cable as mine was in that Triumphest parking lot. How has it held up? Mine has been golden since then (knockin' on wood now).
Zeke, if you are in need of one, I can try to find out where the mechanic in LA sourced it. Let me know! :)

I ordered a universal unit from the net. as soon as it a r r i v e s I will install it and keep you guys informed.

Hey everyone!

I've been having this issue on my 7 for years.
I've learned to adapt to the sticking but since it broke on me a couple days ago, i'm sick of it.[:(!]
I installed a new cable from VB just as Zeke did.
The previous cables(2) were also VB brand.
The new cable worked really well for the first day and then went back to the same old crap the next.[V]

[?]Has ANYONE found a way to fix this issue without making a custom cable[?]

[?]Would ordering another brand be any better or is the custom cable the best way to go[?]

Advise would be greatly appreciated due to lack of funds and time.
I'm a 23 year old that works 50+ hours and goes to college.
I will use the little free time I have to get this issue resolved!

May I suggest you go visit George at St George Ltd on Nacogdoches Rd. He is about the last of the old time Foreign car parts stores still dealing in British cars down in your part of the world. Take your current broken cable to him and see if he can match one up for you. It will cost more than our prairie pals at VB, but you will be able check out what you are buying first.

May I also suggest the accelerator cable be routed over and around the front of the engine, looping back under to connect with the linkage. This sweeping curve avoids the binding and kinking when trying to go behind the engine. Note the routing in these two photos.

Thanks Mildred. I'll try the reroute first and if that doesn't fix it, I'll look into buying a different brand.
