Deadline for TR-D - A reminder!

Postby Maxwell » 29 Jun 2012 08:00

Hi Guys... A gentle reminder that the deadline for Social and Reports needed for the August Issue of TR-Driver is creeping up fast - and if you're not yet a member of the TRDC, Why?

Who needs to join a club to drive their Triumph when one drives it every day? Just so you know, in about 45 minutes, I will be scampering about in my TR7 to survey a Risk for a local insurance agent. Just like most everyday.

Please, use your car for the purpose it was built. A TR7 is a transportation tool, not a parade queen. A social club can be a fine thing, but I'll pass. The evenings and weekends are when me and the car stand down for some rest and repairs.

I belong to a club already, (Old English Car Club over 600 members, 106 in our Chapter). I'm retired so don't drive on a regular basis but if it's not raining I take it into town to get groceries or stuff for the cars or house (renos) except for like today when I need some 8' stuff (no longer fit in car with wind blocker). On really nice warm days I some times make up an excuse to run into town which means getting stuff on the list regardless how short.

As John has pointed out below It's worth it for the 6 magazines we publish every year. Personally there is no way I'm using mine everyday, as you say I'll be repairing it every weekend like you state.

To me I enjoy my TR7s whether I'm driving them or looking at them (which I do more, and more people enjoy parading them now than commuting). And as for the purpose it was built statement, some cars do many miles in their life (not just TRs) and some car do not. That is the owners preference or lifestyle not the reason the car was manufactured.

i'm a member for the magazine is a fun read, and for the mercenary reason that i get cheaper car insurance being in a club, this year paying £88 for the year, not bad at all......[:D][:D]

as a paid up member of several Triumph clubs, and as the receiver of our club copy for some others,

I regularly read my own copy:
The Triumph [Triumph Club of Sweden]
TR Driver [TR Drivers Club]
TR Action [TR Register UK]
TWOA Newsletter [Triumph Wedge Owners Association]
TR Magazine [TR Club Sweden]
The Courier [Triumph Sports Six Club]

and the club copy:
7Times [TR7 Interessengemeinschaft DE]
TR-Information [TR-Register DE]
Triumph Nyt [Dansk Triumph Automobilklub]
The Spitfire [Triumph Spitfire Club NL]
and I can safely say it's much more rewarding driving the '8 than reading about others doing the driving.

But still - I think it's well worth the cost of subscription/membership...

Then Mr Wood, I do so hope your car is sealed inside a zip-lock storage bag to keep the dust off of it. If, that is your preference. How sad.

In the meantime, the strains of the song, 'Born Free', will be soaring aloud as the daily journeys thru the fresh air of living freedom are met by this white TR7. This day and the days to come.

But, you have inspired me this sunny Saturday morning. After breakfast I'm going out to the machine shed and apply a coat of wax so slick, when you lean on it your hand slides off as you fall on the ground.

Theres some strange comments on here, obviously some people dont realise that all club officials in the TR Drivers club(and most other clubs) are unpaid volunteers. None of us receive a penny in wages expenses or any other remuneration. Jim TR, John Clancy, Maxwell, Phil Humphries, Simon Triton TR7,John Wood, John Lucas and others all do many hours unpaid work to keep the club going. This happens in all car clubs nowadays. The moral is that if all you get from your club is the magazines then why not get involved in some way, the more you put in the more you get out. Write articles for the magazine, start up an area group. These are things I started doing, before that I did nothing else but read the club magazines. That was eight years ago(Id been a member for 6 years prior)
Any help is welcome, I dont mind criticism if a practical no cost solution is also offered.
An aside, if you put on your insurance form that you are a club member(any club)if then you decide not to renew your membership, you must inform the insurer of the change. If not it will be used as a reason not to pay out.

Very well said Chris.

I for one appreciate all the hard work freely given
by a few hard working individuals for the benefit of the
majority of us. Myself included, as apart from the odd article
for the magazine I've done very little.
My conscience has been pricked.

I feel you get out of the club what you put in. It's only
over the last 3 years or so that I've become active in the
club scene, going to shows, supporting club events and chatting
on this forum, despite being being a long term TR7 enthusiast and club member. It's made TR7 ownership so much more enjoyable for me having like minded people to talk with and share in my passion.

yes, it's well worth being a club member and worth every penny.

Roy
