How to improve cooling at the cost of looks

Thoughts? I'm thinking, "Oh my god, they've done it to the other side as well". [:)]

I wander with what did they replace the front bumper impact member?

Without it front chassic members would just split apart, and you would end up with the engine in your lap, in a head on colision.

In NZ it wouldn't be road legal if it wasn't certified by an engineer.

It's like something is missing (ok, a lot is missing).

That's just wrong, and it looks like some time and effort went into it.

I have never liked the rubber bumpers, and have always been trying to figure out a good way to redo the front end, but not like this.

Reminds me of Marlon Brando with his cheeks stuffed with Kleenex to give him "jowls" in The Godfather. OK...so I have a weird imagination.

You can see what they were thinking, but it doesn't quite come off, unless he wanted to have the thing look like the awful current Audi. It is certainly not that bad, or as bad as the latest Mazda 3.

So many people have done custom things to TR7's. There should be a thread on here just for pix of these atrocities.. In the grand scheme of things, IMHO this isn't half as bad as most.

Actually I also don't find it that bad ...... perhaps it would be better without the 4x4 stance [?]

There is no doubt the bumpers on a 7/8 are the ugliest aspect (and totally not what Harris Mann had in mind for the car according to the interview with him on the Bullet DVD. Triumph couldn’t get the flex paint to stick on a Corvette-style bumper so went the boat anchor route instead).

I am going down a similar route to the example above except basing the front bar on a 73 Vette front bumper blended in as above. I think that is a wholly better solution than the Ferrari-esque bumper that Morspeed sells (sorry Tim) that in my opinion doesn’t really blend that well in the trasition over the nose. The above method also shortens the nose rather than lengthens it, which appeals to my aesthetic sense. YVMV.

There is no doubt the problem with this way of doing it is that the bumper impact mounts will need to be moved back and a “braceâ€￾ made to span the gap as, as Marko states, without it in a crash you’re toast.

I am planning to do a cut-and-shut on the chassis rails just behind the mounts and a "structural" number plate bar to overcome this.

Having said all that the example above is rather spoiled by the “mouthâ€￾ shape and uninspiring front light arrangement. Although I am with Hasbeen that you have to go a long way to get uglier than the Mazda 3 front bar…

That's weird. I too am playing with doing custom front end.

Right now it is just a foam mold build on a wood "frame" to keep it ridged. There is also a lot of plaster (sheet rock joint compound) on top to fine tune the shape.

My thoughts were inspired by the Porsche 928 / 944 front end (especially how the turn signal & fog lights fit in), and I wanted the bumper to wrap around to the fenders like the TR7 / viper front. The grill started small and below the bumper, but has grown to a bit like the Audi grill (not quite as big).

I hope to have the final shape ironed out this weekend (I have been saying that for a long time).

If I like the final looks, I will post here (if not you will never hear about it again).
