Hi Guys and Gals, my TR6 PI has a strong smell of petrol all the time, I can not find a leak anywhere ! it is strongest in the boot area, any ideas ?[:)]

Well I didn't have to look to far it is the filter seals, so have aquired a new filter and seals, a job for the weekend [:)]

I would do neither. There is a site in the UK, can't remember what the name is and they are almost all PI.

Are you on a Lucas or Bosch pump?

If its worse in the boot it could be a number of things:

Lucas pumps had a habit of breathing fumes through the casing when the seals are on the way out.

Hose unions can leak without giving any trace - worth changing including those on the fuel filter. Good way to check this is to wrap the unions with electricl insulating tape, fuel vapours melt the adhesive making it a dead giveaway if it starts peeling off within a week or so.

The centre O-ring and copper washer holding the fuel filter together.

If your pump to PRV valve hose is an older rubber type try changing it for a modern braided one - also a common source of leaks.

Finally it could be a leaking gasket on the sender unit or a blocked, badly routed breather as these are just behind the boot under the deck.

Had a friend's tank start to come a part from age and all the factory insulation that was on it. When we started to peel the insulation off the tank was Swiss cheese underneath. The insulation was the wick for the fumes.

A naked flame is a great leak finder. [:)]

Your 120psi pump is in the boot, they are easy to over haul so take it apart, look for leaks & replace the seals. Fuel may be leaking unseen into the electric motor part inside the housing. All the return lines terminate back to the tank as well. You'll just have to check them all very carefully.

But isn't really time you updated your TR to a later model.
