Fuel line pressure regulator ???? HELP

80/TR7--Inserted in the fuel line prior to the fuel pump I have a chrome part with white plastic inners that is approx one inch long with a # 96094043 (No Mfg name) printed on it. I assume it is some kind of pressure regulator. It no longer allows fuel to pass through it. Does anyone have any idea where I might find this part and what purpose it serves? I did remove this part and the auto runs real sluggish. Would appreciate any insight you might offer.[:)]

Any chance of a photo Grant? Your description could be a pressure regulator or a filter.

However a regulator should be fitted after the pump, where it can regulate the pressure coming out of it.

Your item could be a marine cleanable filter. I tried something that sounds a bit like that, in the days before I reconditioned my fuel tank, to stop the rust particles.

It stooped it all right, so well that it would be blocked in a couple of hours driving. Try disassembling yours, & giving it a scrub, it might pass fuel then.

I also found regulators did not like rust particles either, & would stop fuel flow with only little contaminate in the fuel.

Certainly sounds like an aftermarket fuel filter. The ones that I have seen have 2 chrome ends which secure a glass tube that contains a white plastic mesh filter. The ends unscrew to allow removal of the element. Replacement filters are available at most FLAPS here in the USA.

If it looks like the one in this picture it is probably a filter. Purchase one at any car parts store. But if it is clogged and rust colored fuel comes out you may suspect a rusting fuel tank.
