Wanted.. A sunroof hole!

Postby Steve-LPS-Thomas » 28 May 2011 20:11

I have just aquired a late model sunroof. There was some debate a while ago whether cutting the existing roof was the best plan or swapping a roof skin with existing hole would be better. I have examined all the pictures I can find but would value the opinion of those who have actually done it!

http://www.forum.triumphtr7.com/topic.a ... Terms=roof

I am aware that cutting holes in cars with unmolested roofs is a controversial subject and that getting a pre-holed roof from a scrap car and passing on the un-holed roof to another car would be the preferred option. Comments and suggestions would be appreciated and before anyone asks, no, the sunroof is NOT for the rally car!

Steve

Hi Steve,

When I spoke to the guy I use for body work he said it is far easier to start with a complete donor roof of the type you want, like Paul (Ruddy) did, rather than mod the existing.

I think it would be a shame to cut through an original non-sunroof roof.

Seems like you and Beans should have a chat about doing a swap.

Hi Steve,

I personaly wouldnt cut a good roof but go for a good roof of a scrap car, then either keep the non holed roof if you change your mind or sell it always a need for a 'solid' roof in motorsport circles.

Cheers John

Well I would agree with the sentiments about not cutting a non sunroof roof panel.

Steve, you don't say whether you got just the sunroof or the whole assembly with the runners, interior trim bits etc. If the latter case then looking for a roof panel off a late car with a shagged sunroof but complete with all the ancillary parts would make a lot of sense.
