Front sway bar bushes

Postby Jez » 28 Nov 2010 02:05

Have new bushes for the sway bar, I can't even fit the nut on over the dished washer, let alone with a flat washer and dished washer, they appear to long. I did read in another thread that new bushes aren't as compliant.
Any ideas?
They are superpro brand and correct part number.
Thanks
Jez

I had the same issue, they do take a lot of compressing to get the washers & nuts on. I pulled mine tight into place with a ratchet strap, then there was just enough thread to get a flat washer & nut started. Once I did that right up, nip up the strap, and then remove the temporary nut & washer. The bushes stay compresed for a short time allowing the dished washer etc to be fitted & tightened. Finally remove the ratchet strap. [:)]

Jez,

I had similar problem fitting Superpro and used an approach similar to Andy's.

I put one of the original rubber bushes on the outer end with just the flat washer and nut, tightened it up to compress the inner bush, tied a rope between the track control arm and the front chassis tow hook, pulled off the nut, washer and original bush and fitted new poly outer bush, washers and nut and found there was enough thread.

Hope this helps

The ratchet strap method works great. Loosening the ASB mounts on the subframe may make it easier to manouvre.

I used a big clamp which was very tricky. The ratchet strap method sounds much more practical.
