Haynes Village Show Last Sunday.

Postby john 215 » 24 Jun 2009 19:04

Hi,
Was invited to go to this show by someone at work, small car show approx 100+ cars and bikes BUT in the middle of the afternoon the roads in and out of village are offically cleared and shut. Then all 100+ cars and bikes do a circuit around the village in convoy, out into the surrounding country side and back again for 3 circuits (approx 3 miles each time) All cars are displayed in age order and do the road run in this order, i had a AC 3000 ME , not the most common car on the road!, in front and a Morgan +8 behind. Good range of cars there, a few pictures-

The only other TR7 there, V8 installed, anyone reconise it??

Line up around me

A rare ERA Turbo Mini (worked 100 yards down the road where these were put together, we sold a few as well.

If didnt have a UK V8 then i would have a American one for sure [8D]

An Bugatti Type 13 Brescia, had load of scrutineering passes for hill climbing, good to see old cars still being used as intended

A real super car, a Porsche Carrera GT, mid mounted V10 sounded bl88dy great, reved like a motor bike engine [:D] and sounded like an F1 car [8D] and looked like it was doing 206 mph (top speed) whilst sitting still.Gent who owned it was a top guy, even let me sit in it [8D]

All in all good show, something different than turn up and show!
Cheers John

Hi Martin,
Haynes Village, just off the A6 between Clophill and Bedford, towards Shefford sort of area. Last year, for your £5 entry fee you also got a full sit down meal for two at the end of show as well[:0] and a knees up [8D] Now not every show gets you all that! This year cost them £400 to close the roads [:(!] But next year a kind gent is going to sponsor the closure so the meal may be back! Will post next years event on here when i have a date, pencilled in for the first or second weekend in July next year.
Cheers John

Hi John,
Thought it recognised it.
We used to go to the village pub when I worked at Cardington building Airships in the two massive sheds at the bottom of the hill.
This shows how big they were. . . . .

Hi Martin,
Hav'nt been over to the hangers for years, whilst they are building that new estate (Wexham [?] ) you can see them from the A6 a treat.
The progam you are given includes a £5 voucher of a meal at the Greyhound pub in the village, so may well be having a pint or six of the 'black stuff' there myself [;)] next time i treat a young lady to a meal (hopefully she will drive [;)] )
Talking to the gent with the AC 3000 ME, they are fitted with TR7 headlamp lift motor assemblies and we exchanged a few stories of winking headlamps ect!! You think we have bad earth problem the body on the AC is fibreglass!!! The strangest thing is the drive leaves the clutch on the back of the transverse, mid mounted Ford V6 and then drops via a chain [:0] into the gearbox mounted below the engine!! Both engine and box have seperate oil supplies! Fasinating things you can learn at a car show!!!
Cheers John
