Hello All,
What a fantastic weekend!!! TRDC Stand on Sunday was simply fantastic, I'm sure, had the day started with better weather, we'd have got more cars!!

To meet Mr TR7, Harris Mann was excellent, what a nice down to earth bloke, it was a pleasure to shake his very talented hand!! It was a stroke of genius by Chris to invite him along, he made the day EXTRA special!!

I was really pleased to see so many TR7's there, you had to really look for some of them, they were scattered all over the site. There were some really nice one's just left by caravans and tents all weekend!!??!! Why?!!! and not just 7's.

It just made it impossible to count them all which I found frustrating, but still, they were there at the event and I suppose that's the important thing!

I was pleased and surprised to see so many and I honestly think they might just be on the way 'up' in terms of interest in cars. Someone said to me over the weekend that the rarity could be down to so many TR7 fans owning several cars and of course we can only show one?! Possibly true, I know quite a few people that own more than one!

Anyway, just wanted to thank everyone there for a great weekend, the drive back up the fabulous A49 just 'topped off' a great time, I was knackered, but very HAPPY!!!!
Cheers
Stuart.

Roy, the credit for getting Harris, Bill Price and Gordon Birtwhistle on the stand should go to John Clancy, he arranged it all.
Ian, I think Alberts surname is Tingay.
Thanks to everyone who supported our stand, especially Jim Johnson and John Lucas for acquiring the super corner plot and assembling the flags and gazebo.
Also Id like to thank Chris Cunnington from the Register for the invite, I enjoyed the whole weekend, its always good to be able to discuss Triumphs with so many enthusiasts.

For me was a brilliant weekend - meetiing Albert Tinsley and learning all about my EFI tank with heater elements. apperently it which was used by Albert himself whilst at Lucas and developing the TR8 EFi system. They were experimenting with the emision controls trying to get low enough figures to be able to sell the TR8 to the USA.

Ian, as Chris mentions, Albert's surname is Tingey, but there is also a guy called Ian Tinsey who lives down here on the south coast and runs a transmission business.

Ian Tinsey has a very early prototype LHD TR8 coupe & is something of an expert on all things TR7 & 8. Many of us down here us his services, and he is pretty good on the TR8 EFI system as well. A good man to talk to when you want to put your EFI back in [:D]

Albert is always such a great guy to talk to, he has such a vast knowledge of the EFI system, and still running his own TR8 DHC EFI of course.

Hope that clarifies who's who[:)]

Stuart, a lot of credit for getting a good turn our of wedges has to go to the efforts made by the TR Register this year. We had been speaking to them as a club since March with regards to actually making them visible at Malvern because as I'm sure we all know you hardly ever see any at Malvern usually. As a club we hoped to get around 40 to 50 there and I think we had about 40 in the end but that turned out to only be about half the total number of wedges on site which is wonderful. There may even have been as many as 100 over the course of the weekend so apart from Stags they seemed to be the most common sight.

We usually invite Harris along to the NEC Classic and he spends some time with us on the Friday so anyone wanting to come to that show I recommend planning ahead and making it on the Friday. There are usually far fewer people (because it's slightly more expensive to get in and a work day) but it does mean you can get around the whole show much more quickly. We'll be inviting other former Triumph personnel who were responsible for our cars so if you are into 'The Wedge' you know where to come.

The T.S.S.C. now have a register for the TR 'Wedge' which has just started reports in their monthly magazine. Also the TR Action mag has a good feature in every issue. Along with the excellent TRDC Mag, that's pretty good coverage for our cars.

Maybe we should arrange for some of our best cars to be featured in some of the really big magazines like Classic & Sports Car.

I'm sure they would love to feature for example, a 'mint' 2 litre, a Sprint, a TR8, a V8 conversion, a rally car and a Grinnal!! That would fill a good few pages and should generate a great deal of interest in the cars and the club!!!

Inviting a few Triumph 'Celebs' like Mr Mann to the photo shoot would give it even better 'historical' impact!

....oops! I'm getting carried away! I usually do when talking about the 'wedge' Sorry!, but, although my car wouldn't be good enough for this idea I'd still be happy to help arrange such a gathering!

Cheers
Stuart.

Ian Tinsey has a very early prototype LHD TR8 coupe ......

i believe ian's car is one of the tr7 and 8's that were built at longbridge in the methods build dept.
any tr out there with the reg HOJ***W is more than likely a methods dept. longbridge car..
at one time i had a marina van (HOJ 1 W) which was ex works used in the factory for delivery of toilet rolls and plasters etc around the nurse stations that were in every building there.

like SJW***S was a works number pattern. sprints/ rally cars, but there was an electric flat bed truck ( bit like a milk float) used by the heavy gang( machine movers/ millwrights) at longbridge with the reg SJW???S. in yellow.
they also had two nice, but very dirty Nuffield tractors with winches on the back which i ended up buying and cleaning up, one of them turned out to be a prototype .. sixth in the build of universal three's. if any one has a tractor fetish i'll try and post a picture

Chris, Tony,

Apologies for my mis-spelling of Alberts name, as you say I was mixing it up with Ian Tinsey's.

Was great to meet all of you at the weekend - with my other responsibilities it was quite hectic but very enjoyable.

Good to meet you Tony and put a face to the name - now you can see where your sender unit will end up.

Cheers
Ian

It was an excellent turnout at Malvern, I was in the TR Golf, it is hidden away at the back of the pictures.

My son Harrison was over to moon to get his photo with Harris Mann.

Harris was an absolute gent, even signed my T Shirt as was in the Golf and not my 7.

Great to see everyone there, now looking forward to the Blackpool run and getting the Red 7 through MOT.

The Stag goes in today for its first MOT in 5 years, ouch.

Stuart, the TR Drivers Club are always promoting the TR7 in all its variants to the classic car press. Haven't had any articles published for two or three months now but the first half of the year was awash with them. No doubt we'll get another rush in the near future because most of the magazines come to us specifically because we are not only recognized as the club for The Wedge/The Shape but have the best selection of cars available too. After the awful write-up the TR7 got in Classics & Sports Car compared to the earlier TRs (the one where the second Coca Cola car was driven but it wasn't tuned correctly) we've extended our offers of help to all the Triumph clubs. It's important to get these things right when you're promoting a car rather than having it written off as a gutless windbag!

Hello John,
Thanks for that, I should have realised there would be people in the club who never stop 'promoting' the marque. I was looking at mine the other day amongst the modern stuff on a car park, from 'side on' it looked very small and low in height, a very 'neat' design, but very 70's with it's Java green paint and factory wheel trims. It was the cheapest car there in terms of money value but by far the 'coolest'!!!
Cheers
Stuart.
