Thanks Ron and everyone.

I'll be on here still although a bit infrequently (there's not much to report on when I can't even drive on the Queen's Highways for another 11 months).

I will update this thread as well but I suspect it won't be monthly for a while[:(]

A 3 monthly update now!

The car is now SORNed although I have done a bit with it - new wheelnuts for a different set of wheels and also getting the group 4 brakes together.

I am not giving up though!

You might like the video I put together from the Roskirk Stages.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NuExnS8SlVY

Next up is an extension to my carport so that both my TR7s can be under cover. Then I can do some work to the rally car over winter - fitting the group 4 brakes and taking the cylinder head off for some work.

When I can drive again next year I'll do one or two low key clubman events.

A gent in a local motor club says he'll help with an appeal to the MSA when I have my normal licence back so it's not over yet.

In the meantime, just in case that doesn't work, I'll be allowed to co-drive all being well in 4 1/2 years time now so we'll go stage rallying again then. The plan is Sarah will do the driving - I hope she will cos we have shared the dream.

If that goes to plan we'll do the Manx too.

I'll keep you posted with a 3 monthly update - you have been warned!

Very good video! Be careful using music like that on YouTube now though as you may find the video gets removed. If that happens I'd like to see it with just the sound of the car anyway (however bad that may be).

John it's OK as Sony Music very cleverly use it as an advert to sell you the track!

I put it on as much of the lyrics summ up what it was all about for me - and I am still holding on tight to my dream[;)]

But, for you, I'll take the music off and post it on Youtube, maybe later today[:)]

Now that is even better! I've just been sat here running it full screen with the sound up loud. I almost ran upstairs to get a TR7 steering wheel too but managed to restrain myself.

Exciting driving. Do you have a Works style rear panhard rod suspension setup on the car? I was discussing this with one of the chaps who developed it a couple of days ago and it's bloomin' complex.

Glad you liked it John.

No I don't have the works style rear suspension.

I have a relatively small budget and I believe Bill Price said the original rear suspension would have been OK for tarmac. Well as I only intended doing tarmac rallying and never felt I could afford more than say 150BHP from a 16V engine I went with the original set up.

The only mods were polybushed, 200lbs lowered springs and KYB shock absorbers. There isn't even a limited slip diff!

Tentatively I started playing around with tyre pressures but not enough to make a difference. What did make a difference though were the tyres.

Running to historic spec they were 185/70R13s. As the weather was so appalling for most of the day I used standard Michelin road tyres but later on it did actually dry out and I asked the service crew to put on my "proper" historic tarmac rally tyres - Avons at £115 each (gulp).

My god they were good. I got out of the car after the first stage with them on and wanted to hug everyone. Sarah asked me how I knew they were so good.

I could only say that I now knew what the expression "flying by the seat of your pants" means. I just felt confidence almost flow up me from my buttocks!!

It's just that I could feel the extra grip on the tarmac.

By the way it felt great too sat in the car whilst it went up on the jacks and axle stands and the wheels and tyres were changed[:D] Pretty cool eh

I am just so pissed off my health is getting in the way of doing more[:(]

Os the Avon's are not supposed to be any good in the wet? When you finally do get back to rallying again it may be worth trying them. I say this because I find the TR7 just isn't that great in the wet whatever tyres you have on. And without a panhard rod that whiplash effect can really catch you out if putting the power down too quickly through a corner. Not that I mess about like this much any longer (so perhaps I should swap to the five speed box and take the performance hit - it would make for a quieter drive).

The panhard rod suspension is fairly major surgery and not just the bolting on of the big rod, but if you do ever get it done I bet the difference will be phenomenal. I know a place you could get it done up north and it would actually be carried out by one of the original developers. Now that would be rather special.

Great pictures again. I'm just about to watch the last video again... now where's my subwoofer???

I don't know how good the Avons are supposed to be in the wet but I'll let you into a little secret - I have worked for Michelin for 17 years so I think I know a little about tyres.

The Mich road tyres were very nearly brand new and have very deep circumferential grooves which I would expect to be very good at clearing water but on the downside could easily give a lot of tread shuffle which would give a slightly nervous feel to the car.

The Avons have much more rubber in contact with the tarmac due to fewer grooves - it seems sensible to me that the Avons would for this reason alone be the "dry" tyre choice and the Mich the wet.

I also spoke to Avon Motorsport when I bought them and had a choice of 2 patterns but went for this one as being the better in the dry.

BTW - it's a 5 speed box in my car, again standard.

You'll find other videos on my youtube site - the "Little Devils" ones may be of interest to you but they are short and sharp tests as they are clubman level "production car autotests".
