Here’s where to discuss anything specific about your standard(ish) car or something that applies to the model in general.

Do yourself and the other people on the road a favor and buy the correct lug nuts. You could put wing nuts on those wheels and I guess they would work too, but, they were designed for one specific style lug nut, with a shank that centers the wheel, and a flat washer to spread the load. Anything else is not correct. If you want a different style after market lug nut, take the wheels to a machine shop and have them milled for a press in steel insert that will properly fit an after market lug nut. I think you'll will find the stock lug nuts much cheaper than doing that. In my view there's much better places to try and save a little money than mis matching wheels and lug nuts. Anyone that sells these wheels (Rimmers, Vic Brit, etc) has the correct wheel lug nuts, there are not the hard to buy. Also, there are a lot of used ones around from all the people that put the much improved stainless steel ones on their car when they were being made in GB by a forum member. The earliest of these wheels are 32 years old, have been over torqued I'm sure several times, have microscopic cracks, etc, why stress them more with the wrong nuts. Rant over.....

Yes, but you can't get around the fact <u>the design</u> was created for the TR8. Hence 'TR8 alloy rims'<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">
You seem to forget that the few TR7 Sprint's that where built also used these wheels'[:p]
All the pictures I have of the prototype TR8's all have steel wheels [8)]

When Dave Keepax designed the rim it was for use in the TR8. Some of the TR7 'specials' also benefited
from this. Later it was thrown upon almost all the fixed heads - as a means of helping their sales, since
(just as nowadays!) people reasoned; "Why on earth should I buy a fixedhead when there's opentops
to be had?" So they had to sweeten the fhc deal somewhat... [;)]

On a similar vein, does anyone know the torque for these lug nuts on alloy wheels? I'm guessing they should be about 85 ft/lbs.

Indeed pretty close, the book says 120 Nm (or 88 lbf ft)

the lug nuts I referenced in an earlier posting also came with a set of chrome/ zinc/ nickel plated washers.

For the record, my 1981 TR7 glovebox manual only shows the Triumph alloy whels with 185/70 HR 13 tyres.
No mention of steel wheels.
I attach a pic. of one my wheelnuts so you can see the factory standard shape which uses a large flat washer that is semi-captive (by way of three swage detents in the washer) to the nut with a chrome button top finisher. I had my nuts `blacked` [:0]( no jokes please ) and refitted the chrome buttons which are a tight press fit about 20 years ago and whilst not concours now-they do the job!
Many years ago at a car show I happened on a bag of the correct nuts and washers as shown but these had been zinc plated but somebody had then lost the chrome finishers[:(] -I was happy to take them and fit my finishers as and when. I still have them and the bag contained 16 nuts&washers!

Howard, I have the exact same lug nuts that are the right-most as in your pics. Thanks to another member on the board. I'm just going to replace them with the Gorilla brand #72137 12mmx1.5mm "short shank" type. I'm not looking to restore the 7... yet, just trying to make her drivable for the time being.
