Aren't the automatics rather rare, regardless of TR7 or TR8? I have seen pictures of them before, but never seen one in person. And this is a pre-production coupe too? I would be very inclined to leave it as is![;)]

I tend to agree with fivelitres, and don't know if I'd want to mess around too much with such a rare car, salvage title or not. Heck I'd even find a auto v8 coupe a fine companion to my dhc.

(but to each is own I guess, and as long as it was A reversable mods.....)

I must be getting old.
Automatics appeal to me, they didn't when I was younger

I've only seen one automatic and it was a TR7 at the All Triumph Drive In this past summer. They must be quite rare. The type 66 4 speed put in the 1981 would be really collectable.

Like Rich, I'd rather have an automatic these days. Standards are fun when you have nothing but country roads, but with our stop and go driving, the fun seems to evaporate. But like Rich, I'm gettin on, although in my younger days would have rather had a standard shift.

I'd certainly keep it as an auto.

Trust me,the two liter auto is a great drive,so a TR8 auto
Will be excellent, esp.with the four speed BW 66 box.
