Making a profit from a personal venture like this is a tall order Chris. Andrew will just have to see how things sell with this one before he'll know if he's onto something that could warrant contributions to other worthwhile causes.

But how we as TR7 and TR8 owners will win out of this will be another Wedgie product worth having and something that will be seen by motoring journalists worldwide. TR7 products have made an impression on the press in recent years which has resulted in increased publicity with the side effect of more people taking up TR7/8 ownership. That in turn means more cars are saved with the upshot of better parts availability for all of us in the future.

I know there are some who don't recognize the impact this sort of thing can have and the benefit to all of us but those people tend to be the ones who want everything for nothing and therefore contribute nothing. There is nothing wrong with that, it's their choice - I just wish they'd think about things a little sometimes.

Why is making a little bit of money a bad thing?
People who make more money in life certainly contribute more whether it be by paying more tax (on profit), spend more (contributing to the economy) and generally invest more in other ventures.
Sharing knowledge for free is a good thing but so is all contribution to a community even if it comes with a cost.

What if we were to have a "Your story" section where all the ownership histories would be kept together in one place ???
<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">

I think that would be a great idea. Kind of like Maxwell's book in microcosm. Little snippets here and there of what happened with our TR7's, like we were sitting around on the veranda having a beer and swamping stories. It would keep us all connected on a steady basis and at a personal level. We all know how we enjoy Hasbeen's little stories of life and keeping this on a TR7 connected level I think would be an interesting section. We get a little of this in other sections from General Wedgie chit chat etc. but sometimes even the more mundane type happens can be entertaining where often we wouldn't bother to post and the community will never hear about them.

I'm a big fan of the engineering side of things - design drawings, blueprints, cross sections, how the factory worked (seeing them make the bodies would be interesting), how they did the computer modelling for the DHC, that sort of thing.

Again I have read your initial entry seeking 500 word articles with original photos from TR7 owners. These articles will be used to populate the pages of a 200 page, coffee table size book you seek to produce.

Am I right so far?

As of yet, my queries have not been answered.

May I politely and respectfully suggest you seek the advice of a lawyer experienced in the publishing world. There could well be pitfalls to be avoided in your literary ambitions.

Granted, research efforts can be expensive in interviewing people the world over to get their stories and photos of the car. As such, staying on the straight and legal path is a paramount concern.

Please note, I am not seeking to discourage your dreams. Just the opposite, if this is a strong calling in your soul, do go ahead with it.

Explain your concerns over legality if the pictures and stories are donated by the General public?

As for copyright in the UK it rarely and I mean very rarely last more than 25 years. However there are no copyright infringements to what Andrew is planning.

Good luck Andrew with the project that I will be fully supporting and my article will be with you this week.

John, I concur (and I speak from authority) - original material, submitted freely with the writer's consent and also photographs not under copyright (i.e. owned by the individual) and / or photographs under copyright but the right to publish secured, do not have any legality issues.

Good Luck Andrew, you have my full legal permission to use my article and the photographs are authorised for use in your publication.

Moreover, i do not seek, or will seek, compensation for my work regardless of the multi-millions of pounds you will earn from this project :)

Hi Maxwell,

I am more than happy to pass on anecdotes (both royalty and copyright free [;)] ) should you feel they are of any worth. I am a little busy at the moment, picking up another TR7 and some more parts this week among other things [:D] so it is unlikely I will put pen to paper immediately - sorry.

Also I am not the greatest literary genius in the world so please do not expect too much.

Wonderful! We are now in the presence of legal experts. One of whom is a mere used car dealer by trade. Quickly, let us notify the media of this earth shaking event.

Please Maxwell, consult a lawyer to clarify the steps to be taken in your noble quest.

Don't be daft Mildred old gal - whilst we do have quite a few nutters over here who think you can sue for anything we've not quite descended to some of the American low levels and with regard to a niche market project like this there wouldn't even be a problem in the USA. If anyone makes a submission for a book like this that is all that is required so there is no need to spend extra vast sums on a solicitor for something so basic and bleedin' obvious - snort!

My dearest Mr Clancy. Your first sentence says it all, ('whilst we do have quite a few nutters over here who think you can sue for anything').

I will offer no more on this topic.

Just submitted to Maxwell my contribution and was pleasantly pleasd to hear that 20% of the book is now complete – please keep sending Maxwell your anecdotes!

The text will be checked for litigious content prior to printing.....

His email for those that got lost in this thread is trdc.editor@btinternet.com.

Come on Gents (& Ladies), let's get behind this project and get it finished and then we can start Volume 2 !

Great idea Maxwell, and my effort for your consideration will be with you as soon as possible.

If it all goes wrong, I'm sure that we can arrange a 40th Anniversary style cavalcade to visit whichever establishment Her Majesty chooses to detain you at.

Thank goodness Mildred 'will offer no more on this topic'!
