I can't stand them but I kept getting points taken off for haveing holes in the boot lid. I made mine black and put it back on. No more points lost!

A good alternative to a bootrack is something called a Bootbag, this is simply a bag, sitting on a mat, strapped onto the boot with 3 straps. Can assure you they are perfect for a motoring holiday, and dont budge an inch, even between Norfolk and Le Mans. You just simply remove and carry like a holdall. They dont mark the boot at all.

Pic of mine at the end of the attached thread from my website.

Seems quite expensive for simply a chinese made? looking bag + mat, and on top of that you have to source your own front straps, they seem to have forgotten these... amazing!
I´m glad my car came with the nice stainless original rack

Right. Installed on the spare lid not the one with the rack. That would just be silly.

Eh!!! Dont understand your response? Its British Made, not Chinese, Very Good Quality, It came with all straps, expensive? Mine was £68 and Aluminium/Wood Boot Racks are £82 + Staps required, Stainless Steel are £107 + Straps required.

Apologies, i just couldn´t see the front straps. I´m pleased to know it´s made in
England. I´m getting to like the brown one. I wonder if anyone has a photo of the bag on a factory TR7 rack?

Andy, I think we're talking different tomatoes here;

The European luggage rack (still available I think) is a loose contraption with 'straps' and rubberised
feet that you temporarily fit onto the boot lid (had one on my Spitfire - I know the four dimples made
by the feet are still there...). A p.o.s. I'd say. [Sounds like the bag mentioned is a soft variant of this
- without the dimpling feet, but still with the upwards bending straps.]

The American luggage rack is a US sourced (and since long only available in e-bay and such places
usually 100+ dollars or so for a good second hand one) and permanently affixed contraption without
any extra fastening straps and such. But, since it's a permanent fit you get eight tiny holes in the boot
lid under the four (let's call it) 'feet'.

It never ends to amuse me: Two markets - divided by a common language... [:D]

Odd, A friend of mine has 2 boot lids . One with and one without. He drives around without it and if he needs the rack he changes lids. This is on his 6 and he will be doing the same with his new Wedge

Seems like a lot of trouble just to get more storage in a sports car. Better to leave that extra suit, second and third week change of clothes and visit the laundromat once a week instead while on the road.[:p]

My car had a luggage rack and I found another bootlid that was alreay the same color without a rack and swapped them out. Just like Don was talking about. Takes about ten minutes to swap boot lids.

I thought we discussed the topic of luggage racks here not that long ago.
