Door handle seating gasket

I am having the door repainted and I have removed the door handle. There was part of a gasket between the body and the handle. Any idea wich material could be used to make one.

Probably anything you want to use from cork, to paper, to a syn rubber of some kind.
Most important is the thickness I would think

You could try some thin rubber sheeting, it can be awkward to cut but a sharp razor blade usually does the trick, and a hole punch for the round bits[:)]

IIRC the original gasket was the paper type, the plastic ones are repro (& likely to last much longer!).

Robsport sell the plastic gaskets, I think they are Land Rover Discovery parts. Cost about £5

For best results I would cut it from a thin sheet of neoprene which is soft like rubber but chemically resistant. You can buy sheets from you local auto parts store (used as gasket material.) I've got a thicker sheet that i cut my gaskets for the gas tank holes and will use it fot the gas cap seal. Paper doesn't seem too permanent to stand up to car washing and waxing.

The original was paper, as I have one sticking out of a door still that is eventually coming apart for a repaint. Why in the world would they be made of paper though? Last time I checked, paper will absorb water... There has to be some sort of logic to it, I just can't figure out what they were thinking.
