TR8 Steering Wheel

What is the best product to take care of a leather steering wheel?

I am in Arizona, so it is a very dry climate and I don’t want the leather to crack and dry out.

Lexol works well enough and is reasonably easy to find, but I really like Leatherique rejuvenator. I find it does an excellent job of keeping leather in good shape.

If the leather is in good condition then Nivea facial cream works well.

I'll second Marsu's comment. When I was doing a lot of building work in the house the cement seemed to have the same effect on the Saab steering wheel and gear knob as on my hands, so I tried hand cream on it. Worked a treat.

For my TR8 wheel which is dried and cracked on the upper half from the blazzingly hot California sun I went to my local tack shop and got a product called Ko-Cho-Line leather dressing. It's a purple jelly that works well. Rub it in. Let sit for as long as you aren't using your car. Wipe off excess. Improved leather a lot.

Monica's Spider wheel leather was deteriorated. She sent it to the manufacture and had it redone. No idea how much it cost.

PS. Monica went to Triumphest, then messed up her knee. She is now hobbling around with a cast on her leg. Get Well Soon, Monica!

Best bet is probably a leather dye. I would enquire at a leather store, a hobby store that carries leather carving/craft supplies or a tack shop.

Judging from my steering wheel it's not really black but a dark brown that may look black, like Jacobean Minwax stain (for wood).
