[jclay (RIP 2018)]

My seats have been getting very worn in the TR7 over the past few years. No one sells replacement seats in the same style. I was at Saldana Auto Interiors last week talking about the boot for the TR8. They looked at the interior of the 7 and it turns out that they had a perfect match for the original material.

So the 7 has spent the last 4 days at Saldana's having the seats rebuilt and new cloth sections installed. I am very happy with the way they turned out. I really didn't want to change the look of the interior but the seats needed to be redone. Photos later today when the sun comes out.

Very nice. Do they sell just the cloth covers and ship? ie. Do they have a template or do they just do it from old covers?

Indeed! I would be very interested in this, as I also have a TRIUMPH 2500S with beige seats where the back one has suffered sun damage over the years and needs totally recovering

My local guy wants 300$ to do the cloth on both front seats on my car..he claims to have a material very close to the original velour in my seven ......

Guessing that are also able to save the vinyl on your seats Jclay???
Some close ups of the seam would be appreciated

Be careful of that old vinyl.

I had to do my seats, the same as jclay's, & in excellent condition, when the frame of the drivers seat cracked.

My auto trimmer thought the covers would be good to reuse. However he found just getting the clips off was tearing the vinyl in places. He decided it would never stand resewing. It may be in better condition in colder climates, but it was the fabric, not the plastic, that was finished.

Fortunately the exact same color, & pattern is still available, so he rebuilt mine with a nylon that looks like the old velour & new vinyl. The vinyl was a very minor part of the cost.

All up cost was A$900, but they are great, & I'm happy.

That's getting pretty close to the price of leather seats ( just over 10% cheaper). I'd rather go to leather if didn't disqualify me from collector plate/insurance status.

This weekend I FINALLY rebuilt my drivers seat...almost. I've put in new foams, diaphragms and straps. But what glue does one use where the old vinyl was glued to the frame and where the seat covers were glued to the foam? Just a rubber glue do you think?

The best adhesive I have found for these things is a "craft" spray adhesive by a company called Arbee Craft. I'm sure there are plenty of other similar products.

It's a contact cement type material, & it works & keeps working in hot Ozzie cars. The best thing about it is it's a pressure pack, so quite thin, & goes on quickly, easily & smoothly with no lumps. I have always been unhappy with the results when I spread contact with a spreader.

It's an Ozzie product, & you get it at craft shops.

Yes, we retained the original vinyl and rebuilt the foam and one of the diagrams.
