Bonnet hooks

Postby TR Tony » 16 Oct 2010 16:50

Well I am sure we all know that the early cars had small L shaped hooks & later cars had longer J shaped hooks.

I bought a nice shiny new pair of the early style hooks from Rimmers a few weeks ago, they were going cheap & my originals were a bit grubby. Went to fit them today, 5 minute job I thought. Got the old ones off, new ones out of bags, only to find the old ones had a much larger diameter thread on them, the new ones are far too small & don't even touch the thread on the captive nut[:0]

So, were there two sizes used in production? Or have Rimmers got a load of hooks in the wrong size?

I cleaned up the old ones & put them back on[:)]

Tony I had the same problem I just thought it was the fact that I had an early bonnet.

Tony, after reading your post I just took a pair of early type hooks out of a 77 early bonnet and tried them into a double bulge bonnet, they fitted no problem.

Dont know if that helps or muddies the water even more [?]

Cheers, Paul

Thanks guys. I am trying to fit a pair of the older style hooks into an early single bulge bonnet.

Maybe Rimmers have got a batch of hooks made the wrong size? You would have thought someone would have told them by now .......
