Yes, new apk (mot)

Today i,ve got a new apk (mot) this the second year that my car sailed trough the apk without any trouble.
And now since the 7 is 30 years old the apk is once in two years!!

6 months does sound a bit excessive Peter. Probably good lobbing by the motor industry.

However, don't knock it too much mate. Here in Qld, Oz, we only have to get a roadworthy certificate, [MOT] when the vehicle changes hands.

You can imagine how bad some cars can get when they have not been inspected for 10 years or more.

There was a report of one, in the local paper, the cops stopped for no numberplate light.

They found a big sheet of plywood covering the hole in the floor.

The plywood was to stop the 12 gallon drum falling out the hole.

The 12 gallon drum was the drivers seat.

If you were silly enough to think about it, the fact that that thing may be coming the other way at you, at 100Km/H, could make you not want to drive. Be happy that your inspections keep that stuff off the road,---mostly.

In the summer i drive it every weekend and to meetings in the winter i use the car only if the weather is good and there is no salt on the road.

Are your inspectors as inconsistant as ours? If we fail at one place we will try another & if they pass it they get a sudden influx of business from old car owners as word gets out that an inspector has gone soft. [8D] Then they get a kick up the arse from the transport dept & the search begins again. [:p]

There is much talk of the test in the UK going out to 2 years - to be inline with Europe. The garages of course are fighting this like mad!! It's a fantastic source of income for them - 'fixing' tiny little 'faults' that they find - the favourite (as mentioned ona recent thread on here) being the emissions test - which needs an expensive oil and filter change to get a 'good' result..........

yeah, two years ago i was at a garage like kwik-fit and they where difficult about the CO2 test, they must change the carb setting and other little things, i think to make more money.

Now i was at a little garage that was specialised in Volvo's Amazone
and they do other (classic) cars too.

But I think that one controller is stricter than the other

One way or another it's always nice when your car passes the test [:)]
I am lucky as a friend of my runs a garage, which used to be Leyland/Rover dealership.
He still has lots of old (mostly British) cars in for maintenance.
As I tend to forget my APK, I usually drop the TR7's there and have some coffee with him, while one of his mechanics inspects the car.
And sometimes they even find something I missed [:D]

As for Kwik-Fit, a colleague of mine brought his car there ones for it's annual inspection.
When he went to pick it up they presented him with a bill for new front discs and pads.
He politely asked them to put the old parts back on, but they had thrown them away already and the scrap iron collector had just left [:I]
Needless to say he didn't pay the bill, because he had renewed the front brakes himself two weeks earier [}:)]
