Where does this go ?

Postby RUDDY » 03 Oct 2010 11:22

I seem to recall taking it off and I keep looking at it in a box in the garage but I can't recall what it fits around ..[?], its not as big as it looks in the photo.

Cheers, Paul

Well, I`ll guess seeing as nobody else has.

My fist thought was anti roll bar bush, but as I cannot remember what they look like I could be wrong.

That crossed my mind as well, but I changed mine out with poly 3 years ago and can't remember if they looked like that. They look familiar but my brain can't make a positive ID.

Ruddy,

Only a guess again maybe under the Wiper motor or maybe part of the steering wheel, bit which goes under the dash.

My son had a pre-school book which showed strawberries about twice the size of apples.........

I'm with Jim, I think its the Windscreen wiper motor seating pad but I thought these were almost a diamond shape with a notch at each end for the retaining strap.

Cheers guys, considered all those options prior to posting and it isnt any of them, I would have thought wiper motor but I have that piece and as said its a flat piece of foam. This piece actually stays in a semi circle, too small to fit around wiper motor, guess somewhere down the line I'll need it ....

Paul,

Over the years I have stripped a few Australian delivered FHC to bare shells and can't recall ever seeing a part that matches your picture.

Could it be a part from another car that a PO has adapted, perhaps for the front anti-roll bar?

There's much to be said for using ZipLock sandwich bags and labelling everything on diseassembly

I know someone said this but it looks a lot like a anti-roll bar mounting rubber that goes under the roll bar bracket.

Are you sure it didn't fall of your vacuum cleaner, rather than come off the car?

Fully agree Marsu and most of the parts are stored and labelled in exactly that way, just the odd couple of rogues that have slipped through the net.

I don't recognize it either, and I've stripped pretty much my whole car (apart from the front suspension).

I think you can rule out a mounting rubber, as normally they'd be clean and slightly squashed around the top where the mounting clamp fitted. Yours has clearly been exposed to the elements, I'd hazard a guess at some sort of a protective cover - although for what I don't know. Ignition coil maybe?

Are you sure you took it off? Sure one of your mates didn't throw some random part into your box for a laugh? [:o)]

I'd say the fact that nobody recognizes it means it's not OE Triumph, but either an aftermarket fitment or something bodged from another car.

My advice is throw it away - if you did need it, you'll soon figure out where it was supposed to go! [:p]

That's were I've seen that textured surface but it's on the inside of the cover which is a cylinder. Had the fuel pump off this spring when I sealed the gas tank. This what it looks like on the pump. I think it's maybe a piece of it? Or it's just a coincidence.

ty-rap it to the top bar on your bicycle; if your feet slip off the pedals, it may be a bag-saver![:D] wish I had something like that on my first Raleigh Gran Prix about 30 years ago...[:0]
