Now that it is out, what should I do with it?

Now that I have a 5-speed gearbox for my car, I have pulled the 4-speed and need to dispose of it. Is it basically junk/boat anchor/paperweight material or is there some group of car owners that covet TR7 4-speed 'boxes (like some Lotus Seven owners look for TR7 4-speed rear axles)?

I can't believe how small it is compared to the 5-speed gearbox.

I would see if you know of any Spitfire 1500 buddies may want the gearbox since they are the same.

I dropped mine off at the recycling depot, but then it wasn't in good enough shape to use as a boat anchor.
Good riddance to that one.
You will be very happy with your 5-speed!

Yuppers. if you advertise it (craigslist, ebay, whatever) there are guys who want 4-speeds ( I forget why, I think for racing). I had two in my shop and they both were the first things that were bought up! I got $50.00 a piece, and informed the buyer I had no idea the condition of them! Buyers didnt care, they wanted them.

The weak point (one of them?) of the Spitfire box was the roller bearings on the idler shaft would wear out. The replacements were a fraction too big and would grind themselves to pieces in not many miles. This was a few years ago and the problem was recognized and I'm sure fixed by now but maybe why old good boxes were in demand. They got to cost a lot to ship but worth putting on eBay, Craigslist etc.

Don't forget the Marina market. [:p] I know that the Marina shell was not designed to outlast the transmission but it does happen occasionally. [:)]
