Seat belt warning buzzer?

Postby macmattom » 28 Sep 2010 20:33

Can anybody shed any light on my dilema (no pun intended!)? Is there supposed to be a buzzer that operates when the seat belts are not used correctly? My seat belt warning light on the dashboard works exactly as it should (off with no passenger, on when passenger without seat belt but off again when passenger seat belt is connected) IF (and only IF) I run a shorting cable from the green/orange cable from the rear part of the wiring loom to the green/orange cable for the seatbelt warning light on the console.

The problem appears to be slightly more intriguing because the green/orange cable from the rear part of the loom connects to a black/blue cable in the front part of the loom. To further compound the problem, my Pecktron unit appears to be a seat belt warning buzzer. I cannot get my light pods to raise on flash, but the lamps light up! The pods raise when normally selected.

Does this sound like someone has mixed and matched wiring looms in the past, or might I have a deeper problem. I really am not too electrically savvy, but this all appears to be a related problem - will solving the seat belt buzzer mystery solve the mystery of my pods not raising?

Everything else electrical in my coupe works fine EXCEPT the symptons described.

I don't think there was a buzzer..... I just disconnected the wiring when I got my car - to save any problems!

I seem to recall that there was a buzzer on either late cars or US market cars?

This is the only thing that has stopped me rebuilding/refitting the dashboard. Is this an MoT failure if the stalk flash doesn't work, or will it be okay because the main lights work fine?

Cheers,

Hi Mac

As far as I'm aware the UK cars didn't have seatbelt warning buzzers, just the warning light on the dashboard.

The headlight pods can be raised then disconnected for the MOT if you're worried about them sticking down. My MOT station hasn't checked for headlamp flash (rising pods)in the past although the dipped and beam alignment were certainly checked.

I had problems in the distant past when the headlamp circuit breaker became disconnected. http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-GRID006242 Have all your light switches' copper contacts on headlight, hazard and flasher stalk all been cleaned of the dreaded green jelly that they attract.

Hope this helps,

Adam
