You could cut the white borders off decals so less bright white directly on off-white. The white in the decals will probably go off-white quite quickly anyway.. you could also reduce the decals down a bit, very few people know the correct original livery. Here's a pic of MYE with just the few decals on her (as bought). I quite like the Gulf idea too.

I've seen a few Mk1 golfs with banded steels, they really do look the part on most cars. Are Mk1 Golfs really expensive to buy where you are Beans? i still cant belive i sold mine, taxed and MOT'd for £375 back in '97.

i didn't think about the graphics going "off white", that could take years to change though especially as it's garaged. I couldn't find a pic of a rally TR7 using the grapics i bought, i guess the trick is to make it look like it's supposed to be there. Along with being stright and inline with the rest of the decals. One more thing, I thought the lucas brand logo was green? i seem to have bought a red one!?!?!

Last Sunday the wife & I went for a nice drive in the 7 to a cafe near the beach about 40 minutes away. The sun was out, the car was purring away & I was cruising past a sport version of a popular GM product. Then the other driver roars off at a million miles an hour so I dropped a gear & gave chase at a million + 1. Then I hear this strange noise coming from the other side of the car. I couldn't tell what it was but it sounded like a "whatthehellareyoudoingstopitstopstopitnow" kind of noise. I slowed down & the noise went away so it can't have been anything important. Anyone have any idea what that could be? [}:)]

I had the very same noise a couple of years ago Peter sports exhaust, pancakes and always drive with the hood down seems stop it........
now & again it comes back,[;)]

It rides again..... and again wehey!!!!!!!

Mine seems to yelp but only on fast bends or when overtaking?!?! I've found it's the only noise on the car that responds to "will you be quiet"[:D]

It's my screen saver too, glad you like it!

My 205 gti had the same problem whenever the mother in law got in the back, it didn't happen very often so I never took it to the garage to sort it. That said my eurobox has a "tut" filter built into the back seat which apparently gives it another star in the euro ncap safety ratings......

I think I must have one of those these days Peter.

The funny thing is that she could drive the Hilux into town, at 120Km/H in 4Th gear, having forgotten it was a five speed, with one hand out the window, & the other dialing a number on the mobile, & think that was OK.

Back when I was racing I had a GF who could lounge in the seat, at 100 miles/hour, & say something like, "come on, get going, you're supposed to be quick, aren't you"?

I wonder where she is today?

Best place to start looking is just across the border from where I live, Germany.
A quick search found me two Mk1 GTI's for under € 2000,--
No idea what there state is though ...

You always manage to find somewhere picturesque to photograph your cars! Absolutely beautiful. The scenary's not bad either[;)]

My luminition has had it, it allows cyl 2-3-4 to fire like clockwork but only puts a charge to no1 cyl maybe 50% of the time. My strobe light pointed this out to me. Once again she's off the road, Ho hum[B)]

How different your rivers are to mine Beans, & Rob.

My back boundary is a river. It is occasionally 70 ft deep, but more often it is 6 inches deep, 70ft down below the plain, & so narrow I can jump across it, dry foot.

The banks are too steep to ride a horse up or down, & the cattle trails run 500 ft along the bank to get down the slope.

I don't think it would matter too much which river you cars were beside were beside,they'd still look great.

I'm on a tidal river which, much like yours Hasbeen, can vary from about 6" in spring time to a lot!

Now follows a story.........

A friend of mine had recently purchased a land rover discovery, very much standard but a capable 4x4 nonetheless. I mentioned that the river near me is a reletively safe but exciting off road excursion as long as the tide is out, this time unfortunately for me it wasn't completely out.

I had spent a few minutes trying to get my mate to cross the river. He was not that enthusiastic complaining that the river looked "quite full" and that he didn't have a snorkle. I told him he was being a big girls blouse and ventured in saying i'd radio him once i'd got across to say it's safe. This is what happened......

I drove in, maybe 2nd low box, could of been third. The front wheels dropped straight in and within seconds my bonnet had dissapeared along with my tail lights (which incedentally are quite high up on a defender). Realising my mistake and, by now, inability to turn around i had no choice but to nail it and hope for the best. Being in low 2nd or 3rd means you can hit max revs very easilly so being at max revs i had little in the way of a "get out of jail free card" by applying more revs. I was now about 5' deep with a waterline accross my windscreen, had tunnel vision through pure fear and getting dragged out to sea by the current, i could actually hear the pebbles being turned over by my tyres dragging them sideways whilst at full lock. Within seconds the bonnet raised signalling the ascent to the shore and i was now stationary on the bank. I felt sick, a mixture of adrenaline and the realisation of what could of happened is not a good feeling.

I radio'd back saying something along the lines of "for gods sake don't drive accross" and then saw a bunch of kids running towards me from the local pub on that side of the river. They'd seen the land rovers lights go under the water and i'd assume they were expecting something more serious. I wound down my window and was greeted with "alright mate, if i give you a fiver will ya take me back accross"

Let's just say the air turned blue and i continued a half hour road trip to avoid going through that river again. This will shock a few of you that i didn't break down, especially the ozzies who love their Jap 4x4s but i feel that if i was in any other 4x4 then i wouldn't be here now. That was THE most serious situation i've ever been in!

Rivers are for looking at and sailing on, not for driving through!
