Went for a drive today to the upholsterer

Drove well for its first trip (under its own power) in 14 years, I did however get mixed up with the MPH speedo and kept reading it as Km/hr....... lucky there were no tax collectors aound!

Also, finally I understand why people put up Youtube videos of their engine running, until now I thought it lame.






Notice that the fan is a blur... wow it runs



Not sure about all the gold pacivated plating, may black the radiator Fan guard and Battery holder.

Well done Jolyon, it looks great. I see it has even got the right
type of carbs on it, is it a UK spec?

How do you get the windscreen so clear?

OMG your right Hasbeen...... trouble with stopping in a bad suburb to take photo's[8D]. Still at least they left me the drivers seat.

Yes it is a UK spec car, all TR7's sold in NZ were to this spec, no ADR rules here [:)]

The seat trimmer has screwed up, look at the photograph. He was meant to make the seats up in corduroy like the old covers next to the seat in the photo. Instead he copied the tartan pattern on the seats i supplied for him to cover. (Had his apprentice do the job)

I am in two minds about it. I really wanted something more authentic looking which is of course all corduroy but his screw up does not look too bad.

Anyway, he is not available as he is sick so we have not had the argument yet.

What is it about motor trimmers?

I was planning on going all black in the interior trim. I had the same seats as you, took them to the trimmer, & told him to do them in black.

He showed me some nice nylon short pile fabric, in black, & I left them with him.

Imagine my surprise when I went to pick them up & found the fabric was black, but the vinyl part was in the same fawn colour of the original seats.

They were so well made, & he was so proud of his work, I just accepted them, so will not be going all black after all. After about 6 months I had got used to them, & am now quite happy with them.

Don't fall into the trap of 'accepting his mistake', or 'being in two minds' and thinking that they 'don't look too bad'. It's not what you wanted [:(!]. I think they would look so much better with the vertical pleats as you originaly wanted [^].

That happens to me all the time.....but occifer, I was only going 60...whoops wrong scale.[:I]

That pacivated (had to look that up) metal is cadmium plating, it can be done at home with rather expensive plating kits but pretty toxic stuff. Superior to zinc but does wear off. I like it and would replate the parts that are plated that way but for the expense of the kit. Many platers don't do it any more apparently. It gives it that rich feel (like gold plating)[:o)]

I would get the seat redone. Not a paid fan. I guess there's not enough of Scotland in me.

I use Invisible Glass Cleaner but can never get my windscreen that clean.[:D]

I doubt anyone is using 'cadmium' these days..........We gave it up ~ 20 years ago.
The new seats look great - far better than the ghastly pleated ones. Very nice car - well done !

Every plater I have been to here offers either straight silver Zinc or the gold pacivated for the same price.

I chose gold because it seems to fit well with the glow of the new paint. It makes the engine bay look a little different to the sterile silver colour that in usually installed by the factory. Every plate and bracket has been done eg screen washer pump and cover plates on firewall for wipers.

It is interesting that it is meant to wear off. I have sprayed cavity wax on everything so perhaps this will make it last a lot longer. The wax does dull it a little but I am happy that I did it.

If you like the seats then keep 'em. If you don't then get them changed.

I personally prefer the tartan versions - but it's your car, you have to look, clean and sit on them, so each to their own.
