Agreed.

I was going to put together a post on this but between Shaun & Peter I think everything I was going to say, has been said.

Clay: Like everyone else, I value your input here and would hate to see you leave, but then I'd also hate to be on a forum where everyone has to tiptoe round according to the vague wishes of one person. If it were me causing offence, I'd hope the person would be man enough to approach me directly about what I'd said rather than making vague comments about it.

I believe it is unanimous that we want Jclay to stay. There is no question as to the value of his advice, experience, and technical insight.

As a preacher of the Word of God, I’d like to offer my perspective. This last week there was some very offensive postings on this site. But, they obviously were not posted by any of our members, but from some devious outsider with hopes of increasing traffic to their own disgusting web venture. The postings were removed and some fun was had at their expense. I can appreciate that.

As far as crude language on other postings. I have seen some that I would consider crude. However, this forum is many-times cleaner than most. I am thankful for the good-natured fun and the clean family atmosphere of this forum. But, I tell my friends and listeners frequently, the measure of what is right and wrong is not a comparison of what others are doing, but the measure is the Word of God. (if you don’t believe in the Word of God then that is a subject for another day on another forum). We are taught that “Crude Speechâ€￾ is wrong. How we define “Crude Speechâ€￾ is again another story.

If there is a remote chance that the words we use are offensive to Jclay, to me, or to anyone else who might enjoy reading this forum, then it would seem simple and kind-hearted to choose a different word. Nearly everyone who has written in this forum seems to have at least reasonably basic English communication skills. We each can control the use of our words and be sensitive to the many readers of our words.

I, for one, am willing, and would encourage others to be willing, to use good appropriate language. Not just so that we can keep Jclay here, but to maintain a level of professional, clean, family-friendly words that will carry this forum to many more decades of Wedge fun.

I am grateful to so many of you who write in with questions, answers, and experience that has proved so incredibly valuable to all of us. We share in each other’s lives on this forum to some degree. I know for certain that lasting friendships have been forged on this site and I encourage each of you to continue to help build a clean, family-friendly, future for this Wedge forum for our generation, then next generation, and, with a little luck, the generation after that. But, we must consider our words now, or in another generation, this site will be much like so many others.

One item no one has brought up yet is that of "mother tongue". English is not the mother tongue of a number of forum members. From time to time I've seen responses in various threads from some of these members that could be deemed harsh or even offensive by some. Often this is just because of an incomplete or different understanding of the idioms of the English language. (I've also seen similar responses from native English speakers, but that's another story... [:0])

As well, having worked in many countries around the globe, what is deemed offensive in one area is often quite acceptable in another area. For instance, in Canada we have a clothing manufacturer by the name of "Roots". They made our Olympic teams' clothing for the Australian Olympics a few years back and prominently displayed their logo (a beaver) and their company name on all of this clothing. Well it turns out that in Australia, the term "to root" or "rooting" has a local slang meaning that I'll leave to your imaginations and because of it our choice of clothing made national headlines there and in Canada. (Apparently used Olympian clothing was also selling for fairly high prices in some quarters...[:D])

I've seen similar variations in local meanings to seemingly innocuous English words, all over the planet. This also holds true for some swear words. Being an international forum, I'd suggest we all exercise a bit of understanding, tolerance and lenience when it comes to reading negative meanings into what we read here.

Regards,

Martin

I have no idea what those are but from the context they sound absolutely awesome.

That's the funniest thing to me: besides a few spam posts it's not obvious that there was any sort of a problem. On the bright side, however, it's made me aware that I definitely need to ramp up my usage of profanity and blasphemy.

For the sake of FREEDOM...for the sake of AMERICA...for the sake of FIGHTING THE SQUARES and STIFFLY STIFFERSONS...I swear that I WILL DO IT! [:D]

(seriously, somebody better lock this thread before my sense of humor really gets the better of me. Or is it too late?)
