Is it OK if we express obscenities in our respective native languages?
For instance when the ........ (insert word here) don't function as expected?
I've got a long and distinguished list of words in Viking area language you all wont understand
but still understand... [:D]

That's not fair, Odd.

My native language happens to be English....

Perhaps we could all sign up a few American Indian Code Talkers like the US Armed forces did in WW2[:)]

Fortunately we have natives in New Zealand who speak an obscure language, even more obscure than Viking.... maybe I should get lessons?

That would be a hoot, but unfortunately the last code talker, Clarence Wolf Guts, died back in June. He was 86 years old. God rest his soul.

I seemed to have ignited a fire storm here.

I was referring to profanity that has cropped up on the Forum over the last few weeks. As far as "Swearing is what separates us from the apes" being a "sign of advanced evolution", I would disagree. I think that being able to use the English language to communicate concisely is a better option.

I have work long and hard on both the Forum and my own web sites to help other TR7 owners. I guess that it is time to let someone else take over that task.

It's been real and it's been fun, but it hasn't always been real fun.

Come now, Clay: "fire storm" is overstating things a bit. I think if you re-read the thread in a less serious frame of mind you'll see people are just poking a bit of fun. For example, you obviously missed that my ape posting was made with tongue firmly planted in cheek.

Don't take your torque wrench and go home! [;)]

Clay does have a point. I just looked at a couple of recent postings that contain sexual innuendos and I probably wouldn't have to look too far to find words close to what some would call swearing.

It does not offend me, however some are more sensitive to this than others and obviously our buddy Clay is one of them.

Perhaps it would serve us all well to re-read our posts before posting them to see if they would offend others without meaning to offend. That is all Clay said to start this off.

I won't be itemizing or pointing out the posts either, if you look you will find them.

Clay, if you aren't enjoying the experience and the only cure is for us to behave like we're in Sunday School then you might find yourself out on a limb. Judging by the reaction here the majority believe we are operating beneath the threshold of all that is decent and your comments have blindsided us. I'm sure that not one of us wants you to stop being a part of the community but you need to be reasonable. You're a legend so I hope you'll stick around.

I can't beleive that someone could take offence at some 'tounge in cheek' coments wether they be sexual inuendos or words that are close to what some would call swearing.
And yes, I'll be the first to put my hands-up. I have made a couple of 'tounge in cheek' comments [:0], but they are not directed at anyone personaly. Maybe I do have a strange sense of humour [:o)], but at least I have one [:D]
Right, I'm off now to open up the Sunday School [}:)] [:p].

Clay please don't leave us [:(]. Your knowledge and experience is invaluable. You are a true legend [^].

The contribution by JCLAY to this forum is invaluable. He provides assistance and technical backup at a level not found elsewhere. His request for restraint in terms used when posting is both sensible and reasonable, and was made politely. The purpose of this forum is to promote the marque, and provide assistance and advice to other members wherever possible. This can be achieved without swearing, blaspheming and racial slurs, all of which add absolutely nothing to the content of any post. We should acknowledge that he is correct, respect his wishes, close the subject and move on.

This is the cleanest forum I've ever seen. Variety is great. It's not disgusting in any way. Bit too clean at times to be fair.

Respect yes - but it's a democracy here, and this is an extremist view in my opinion. I disagree with everyone (read majority based on responses to this post) changing their ways to suit one, or the minority.

There's not much stuff that goes off topic here. Dare I say 'bugger all'? Or will I be banned?

And without being specific we are all being tarred with the same brush. Personally, I <b>presumed </b>it was because Of Hasbeen's comments when responding to a recent post to Rocky (I wholeheartedly support and will defend him too) - but if it wasn't, how many other people could now be thinking bad things of this guy - when Jclay may never have meant this at all?

Jclay, you may be being polite about it, but that causes more unrest. I think you could reconsider your approach. And please don't threaten to leave - you either stay and contribute and 'get along' as we all try to - or say your piece and leave.

People come, people go. That's life - who know's who'll be the next to come or go. Let's hope more come than go.....
