Uprated Alternator.

I've now reached the limit of my standard alternator. Being a cheapskate could anybody tell me what other cars i should be looking out down the scrappy which would provide me with an alternator of 50A+ which is a direct replacement please.

A friend supplied me with two of these 70A alternators.
Haven't got a clue what brand they are though, sorry not very helpful [:I]

Here in N/A we use a Saturn alternator with ford V pulley. A search will turn up specifics. A new aftermarket model (Wilson) was $100 (80 - 100amp?) I don't know if these vehicles were imported to Europe. You could take your alternator into a alternator shop and see if they have anything to physically match it on the shelf.

I have a GM type alternator on my 7. It is rated at 100 amps if I recall. It is the "Saturn" type but used on a lot of GM products. I think that it is based on a Bosch design.

There should be a thread about this in the archives.

All that was need to install it was replacement of the plug on the end of the wire loom and installation of a standard Chevy pulley as it came with a serpentine pulley originally.

I bought it new from Napa Auto Parts for about $120.

mine is a Saturn/GM unit, too. 100 amp, $85 new from an alternator shop, with the ford pulley.

I replaced mine with a 75amp Landrover V8 Discovery - £20 off Fleabay.You just need to move the rear mount round to align with the other front one. Rear connector is a straight swap

Coped fine crawling along the M1 for an hour en route to Le Mans with fan, lights etc on

Why would you need more amps ??????? The standard alternator should cope easily! I don't see a battery of extra lights on the car - what's eating up power ?

Perhaps it's time i updated the signature pic as she does indeed have a bank of lights on the front. i have a decent stereo, 4 x 55w spot lamps and a heavy duty electric fan on top of the cars standard power demand. I'm an electrician by trade hence the question "where to get an uprated alternator" not "Why does my battery keep going flat"

Seeing that pic of your engine Beans reminds me, i fitted those Magnacore HT leads a few days back. I think it was Marsu who mentioned the quality, blimey! they look fantastic and were worth every penny. Good call!
