bonnet catching

whilst at billing phil humpries put my bonet down as the wind had picked up, i just noticed a bit of chipping where bonnet goes past the catch point on the stay the front tip of my bonnet has been catching cross member also when opening you lift past catch it also seems to touch what movement do i need to make to correct this

You really need to look at the clearances all round - and gently move it to suit. I'm petrified to do this in case - when I close it again - the bonnet release won't let it open again! Then what do you do........... I understand it involves taking the heater down - not an easy task!

On TR6's you have to get at it from the inside of the firewall so some people have made a wire wire pull to easily release it. (for example if the release cable breaks.)

Fortunately with the TR7 they have already gave us an easy fix. You will notice in the screen above the latch there are two holes. Don't know how far this goes back but it's on my 1980. You can get a screw driver or hook to get the latch open. As the latch opens on different sides on N/A and UK they put the two holes there so it would work on both.

If you're moving the bonnet around a lot you could remove the latch pin and replace/adjust it after the bonnet is positioned properly. Don't forget the hinges have shims to adjust up and down to adjust height of leading edge.

i'm not sure if this is all 7s but my bonnet hinges have a third hole next to the other two which bolt the bonnet down to the body. when this hole is lined up with the hole beneath it (both sides) it lined my bonnet up a treat. Could also tape some cloth to the leading edges of the bonnet to avoid chipping.

Option 1, Wedge the bonnet pull cable fully out with a couple of clothes pegs then you can adjust the bonnet with no fears.
option 2, buy a spare spanner to fit the plate securing the bonnet spring catch, cut the ring end off and throw away, bend the open end head to the same shape of the windscreen surround so if the bonnet EVER got stuck you can still remove the catch.
Option 3, Run a second cable from the bonnet lock through a grommet in the inner wing so you can open from inside the wheel arch if the standard release cable ever snaps.
I have done the spanner option as a standby but adjusted with clothes pegs on the release cable.
