We had the oil gasket on the water pump leak when we switched to the weber carbs set up and replumped the crank ventilation. We were not getting the internal air out of the engine and it blew right through the lower oil seal on the water pump. And seaped from the base of the distributor. And at very high rpm, came out the dip stick.

Just some more ideas thrown out to you for meditation.

My crank case ventilation goes straight to atmosphere, there's no blockages and it all seems sweet in that respect. The reason for the leak is the smaller diameter on the water pump shaft after i turned a small amount of corrosion off. We're talking a miniscule amount, but just enough for it to let by. I'm going to put up with it now as it's too late in the project to rectify it. I'll sort it in a month or so.


r4gwoods, My crankcase ventilation goes straight to atmosphere and where it used to feed the carbs i've piped them together. She's all free to breath!

I think that what ever oil we use, as long as it does 60k without knocking the bottom end out then it's all good.

I've got 90,000 miles on mine and it doesn't burn a bit of oil. I'm aiming for 190,000 miles lke that guy in LA got in 1995!
