First Ride Of The Year

Postby FI Spyder » 21 Jun 2010 15:43

Saturday I had it off the jackstands after the gas tank reseal. I backed it up ramps to torque the lower links. Good thing I had to as it was leaking gas from the filter connections (34lbs.). I thought I had them plenty tight but the high pressure hose was fairly soft so the jubilee clips sunk in more than the pressure would indicate. A couple of (partial) turns and they dried up. off into town to pick up some stuff. A glorious warm summers day almost T-shirt weather and blue skies as Jim's Oregon rain stayed to the south.

Sunday was the club's run to Victoria for their Father's Day Picnic at Beason Hill Park. Out of about 250 cars I was the only TR7 DHC, one other TR7 coupe and a modified TR8 Coupe. I talked to one guy who had his Spitfire appraised at just under $19,000 dollars which made him feel pretty good as he spent $20,000 dollars on it.

It started out cloudy but they burnt off at mid day for a perfect run home at speed. It was nice to be able to run over 2,500 rpm without bogging because of fuel starvation.

Here's a link to short slideshow of a few pictures.

Very cool. If the rain would stay in southern Oregon, or California, I'd be happy.

Way cool! BTW - we don't want the rain here in California either!

We had sunshine here in Anchorage for the first day of summer and I drove my TR6 to work. We held our British Sports Cars Alaska "Concours" on June 12. About 30 cars, no wedges. I'm going to have to get another one for here. There is a small-block Chevy-powered TR7 coupe for sale here. I'm anxiously awaiting my next trip to Portland so I can get the TR8 out again. I hope the Portland All British Field Meet is a little drier this year. See you guys there again?

I don't think I'm going as this summer is very busy but I might as a last minute descision to take a break as I won't be able to attend the All Triumph Drive In at Fort Langley this year as I have a neices wedding to go to. I was planning to go to ATDI but she got all upset so we had to change our plans.[xx(] I still want to get the camping experience in as last year waterlogged me out from that. Would be good to see you and Jim again. Another thing that will favour this year is next year I probably won't go because the club is planning a trip to Disneyland and the wife might want to take that in to see new grand niece in Santa Barbara. So many events, so little time.

I'll definitely be at the Portland ABFM. I haven't missed one since 1982. Even if I didn't have a car I showed up. It is only about 10 miles from here. I love Victoria but haven't been up there since before my son was born, he's 19 now. I still had a TR6 back then. I wanted to go to the All Triumph Drive In at Ft Langley but it probably won't happen. I'm going back to school and class starts next week. Busy busy.

Hope you guys can both make it. I've bought my plane ticket already. I guess I'm going to have to tidy my car up a little if I want to park next to Jim this year! We still need to do that Wedge Tour of Portland.

Hey Merv, speaking of nieces... I learned from my sister that her husband and my niece just won the novice class of the Columbia Gorge Classic Rally in their rubber-bumpered Midget. Pretty cool.
