Strathaven Show 2010 - interested?

Postby gslittle » 17 Nov 2009 16:12

Hello all

Moves are afoot, tentatively at the moment, to hold a classic\modified\interesting car show at some point in 2010 in Strathaven, South Lanarkshire.

How many local-ish (everyone else welcome of course) readers might be willing to attend and put on a wedge-based display? No dates arranged as yet as various hoops have to be jumped through and I'm just researching numbers at the moment for a presentation to the potential organising committee.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Wedges first but you'd be allowed to bring along anything.

Cheers

Graham

Even if this doesn't happen, we should put on a stand at the balloon festival in August, assuming it's on.

Depends on your dates we can bring a min of 6 cars....not concourse but race cars, alternatively why don’t you aim for speed fair at Knockhill, if we can guarantee some wedgies there we can do something a bit better????

Thanks folks

That's great news!

I'm attending an initial meeting next week with the potential organisers. Already interested in what is still a tentative idea are the groups necessary to make such a thing happen i.e. local politicians and so on.

Strathaven is ideal because there are already two potential venues, the first being the park which has loads for non-car people to do from a miniature train via boating to putting and so on, plus a proper cafe and toilets. It's also right next to the town centre.

The thinking behind this is that the Chatelherault show near Hamilton has been cancelled at short notice twice in the last two years and there are rumours that the excellent balloon festival may be no more. Therefore, one or two "slots" may be instantly available.

If it's going to happen it'll be done properly and I'm very grateful for your responses which will help in pitching the idea. I'll find out where the land lies and post as much information as I can over the next couple of weeks.

I hope to be in a position of enough influence that wedge-shaped cars are given the star treatment and most prominent display.

On the competition front, one potential organiser would like to investigate the possibility of maybe an autotest or mini sprint or whatever, but I'm not sure about the health and safety and motor sport authority implications of that. Does anyone know?

Thanks again

Graham

PS Knockhill - only a fool would go round there in their much-tuned 16-valve TR7 road car without taking off their anti-brake-dust dinner plate things from behind the wheels. That'd be me, then. Not recommended.

Hello everyone

It has taken a little while to be able to confirm some of the details of the proposed show. Things have been moving on at some speed and the date is to be Sunday 23rd May, 2010.

The venue has yet to be finalised - a shortlist of two strong contenders at this point - but will be very close to the town centre of Strathaven.

More details soon of how to enter and so on. It is hoped that this will become a permanent event, so let's see if we can gather a healthy complement of wedges where they'll be welcomed and appreciated.

Kind regards

Graham

Hi Stevie

DEFINITELY still happening on 23rd May. Loads happening behind the scenes and we'd be delighted to see you and your club mates with as many TRs and anything else that they want to bring.

Watch this space for final details and a website which will be able (I hope) to take online attendance details and so on. Should be up and running within a couple of weeks at most.

I might even have a car on display but will it be a TR7 or a F*rd?

Look forward to posting more details and to welcoming everyone on the day.

Cheers

Graham
