Which rally computer are you going for Raider?

Just curious as we recently changed ours from a Terratrip to one of the small <b>Monit </b> ones, (TC100), and have to say it is an excellent little unit. As I am the one that has to use it I found it to be much easier to operate and just more 'user-friendly' in general. After it's initial calibration, which in itself is very easy, it has not skipped a beat in the two events we have now done with it.

Actually Corgi did a white TR7 model with my car's registration number!

They also did a motorsports model of KDU 497N on it's rally debut on the 76 Welsh - I have both models[:)]

Historic rally regs say there can't be a read out that shows speed or average speed so I have to be a bit careful what I buy.

Some events want only mechanical tripmeters such as a Halda but the Retrotrip is "allowed"

I notice you have it mounted on the glovebox cover Theo - have you closed this up completely or does it still open?

Glove box is still fully functional.

Made a mounting plate that's fitted to the outer skin of the glove box lid with pop rivets.

The last 3 months have seen me working steadily on BRP replacing timing chain, the tensioner, shimming the head, timing the cam in and starting to fit the rally computer I did buy at Christmas with my Xmas Demon Tweaks vouchers.

As the pic shows, BRP is looking more and more a pukka rally car.

My aim now is to get it running, fit the group 4 brakes, finish wiring the Brantz in and then get the official Historic Rally Car papers from the MSA. That will then be one goal achieved.

On the competition front I'll be navigating for a friend in Club triumph in his 2.5PI on the International Autoecosse in June which should be a great week end.

As regards myself driving again I am currently thinking about competing in the Club Triumph Driver Challenge in 2011 (a collection of autotests,navigational rallies etc where a competition licence isn't needed) which should be a good way of getting back into it all.

The Classic Marathon? Well, maybe after the CT Driver Challenge so that would be 2012. The same organisers have run an event this year on the Isle of Man so that would be very tempting if they run it again

And what about the Manx Rally?

Still planning on doing this - by my calculation the earliest I could do this co-driving in BRP would be 2014, probabably more like 2015 depending on whether my driver needs to qualify for a national B licence. So that's got to be the first aim.

Will I ever drive it competitively? 2023 looks like the earliest possible time, more likely after this. So a great retirement goal then eh?

As for wiring up the Brantz, I use stereo and mono plugs with the female in the dash and the male end on the Brantz. That way I can take it out of the car for security.

If everything had gone to plan mild panic balanced with excitement would now be the state of play - the Manx rally is only 6 weeks away.

Oh well, next weekend I am navigating in a GT6 on a 2 day jaunt in Scotland which will include some great motoring along with 20+ Club Triumph mates[8D]

Just in case anyone is interested here's an update!

I started driving again on the road in November last year and have now done 4 competitive events - 3 in a TRiumph 2000 and one in a TR7 DHC (this last weekend).

First event this year was a Club Triumph 12 car rally when we came 3rd (thanks to my expert navigator).

Next we completed the Historic Counties Rin but only thanks to massive help from club members at the start - the donation of a spare dizzy by Radders and then David Aspinall working on the car to get it running.

Came 7th on the first test which I was really pleased with in a standard 2000 but our event was marred by the nuts soming off the offside rear shock abosorber just after half way :-/

Completed the International AutoEcosse in our TR7 DHC which was very enjoyable ineed. Finished 10th out of 23 CT crews on the tests which again I am very pleased with. Also very happy that Mrs R joined me on this one and is already signed up to do next year's.

Currently standing in joint 5th place in the CT Driver Challenge which is where I would like to be by year end!
As I said over the weekend, I had become so focussed on the Manx that I had forgotten how enjoyable Club Triumph events were so it's good to be out competing again.

I haven't forgotten the Manx though and the next event is both another round of the CT Driver Challenge and a significant step back to the plan for the Manx rally. I am intending to enter the "Little Devils" in BRP in August. This event is as close to a stage rally as you can get without it being one or without needing a competition licence. It's also the first event Sarah and I did together.

Not only that but the last time BRP was out was on the Roskirk Stage rally in 2009 so I am really looking forward to it.

Problem is, I came to start the car and check things over prior to taking it for MOT and the headlight dip/main beam stalk broke! A bit of work needed then :-/


I'll post again at the end of the year to let people know how it has all gone[:)]

Given the almost tropical downpour we've just had that may be a wise decision! Did you know that they are building a hotel where you usually stay. Reports from visitors staying amongst the improvements have not been good!

We didn't like it so much last time we went - the "pub" had gone and it felt like an airport departure lounge. They they seemed more concerned with conference delegates than holiday makers.

It doesn't sound like things are improving from your comments.

Anyway, I'll try to stop thread drift and get back to working on BRP ready for the "Little Devils" rally based in Kirkby Lonsdale in August[:)]
