Last year on the road run we found a tunnel in Northants which the 8s loved, rassed down some top country lanes, went through some woods, took over a lovely country pub and one car was doing 4.5 mpg.

We did not loose any one and the sun shone. HONEST.

This year we are looking at two runs one on Saturday and a different one on the Sunday.

The more cars the better, last year on the Saturday saw 20+ cars on the run, there is something special about looking in the mirror and only seeing 7s and 8s.

Get yourself down to Billing for a top weekend.

Hi Alec,
Would be great to see your wifes car there and of course hear it.
Did the car once run in the Rover V8 Drag Racing Association Championship, if so may have some video footage of it somewhere ( i was a member during the time this series was being ran early 90s, went to all the meets up at the 'Pod' and there was a TR7 very similar running [?] )

Image

Any plans to run it again down the 1320 feet [?] If you are stuck for crew [;)]
Cheers John

Hi John,

As far as I know it ran only on a handful of occasions in the early 90s - the main problem being that the twin-turbo Rovercraft engine ate transmissions. 730bhp at the flywheel and commensurate torque, no wonder it ate transmissions !!

The current (second) engine is puny in comparison . . . normally aspirated, and putting out something in excess of 350bhp at the flywheel on 98 octane petrol. Mind you, the passenger footwell full of electronics isn't there just for show. Use high octane fuel and the 2-stage NOS option and the power increases considerably.

If you have any record of the car in its original guise I'd be fascinated to see it, and extremely grateful - we have nothing relating to its original incarnation, other than the recollections of the guys who built it.

Cheers,

Alec

Hi Alec,
Found a video of the Rover V8 Championship for 1994, on the cover is a picture of your car [:0] i think, in its old Rovercraft days, there name is on the doors. Not good photo as taken in a hurry-

Image

Will watch the video again at the weekend and let you know if its featured on there. If so will try and get copied or send you the tape and you have a look / copy ect.
Got a couple of names as well of guys running TR7's in 1996 championships will PM. them to you with any thing else i can dig out over the weekend.
There was talk a year or two ago of resurrecting the series but nowt came of it
Cheers John

stevie yes cheers for that you you posted my dream car (so to speak) lol it was just as ugly as i remembered...........

zoe you could probs do with booking its a massive site but hang on i'm sure someone will post a special code just for us lot which is also found in club magazine for a club discount i think its normally 20-22 a night if your in motorhome or a caravan cheaper in a tent - discount and that includes entry to the show if you come for the day you'll need a day pass

It rides again.....

Don't forget there's a hotel just outside the gate. Book early - it's far to close to Silverstone...
Jim and I stayed at the hotel last year, and was very satisfied with it and its restaurant.
