Once you start down this road you have to go all the way or it just makes the rest of the engine bay look too sad. That means intake manifiold polished or sand blasted, bolt heads sand blasted, other parts painted, rubbers hoses replaced to look new, windscreen washer hoses replaced so they don't look yellow, windscreen washer bottle soaked in bleach to take out yellow UV discolouration, replace rusted jubilee clips, clean fan blade, the list goes on and on.

But there is the gold (or chrome) at the end of the rainbow.

Hi Gareth,

Looks good. My chrome bits no doubt came from the same ebay seller. I can highly recommend him.

Yah but with a little spit and a little polish and a dab of paint you can keep it dead stockand it'll look pretty good too.[:)]

Can't beat a bit (lot) of hard work F1. Looks super. I'm with you on this one. Everyone to their own though.

While we are on the subject of valve covers, I seem to recall that the early ones were pained light blue. Is this correct?
And, if so does anyone know a close to correct colour available in a rattle can?

Cheers,
Rich

While I have seen pictures of cars (when they were old) with light blue valve covers according to Bill Piggott's book "Original Triumph TR7 & TR8" he states "the camshaft cover is correctly painted in silver laquer." Mind you it was a picture of later UK engine. His book isn't 100% correct (will any TR7 ever be?) and he acknowledges that it may not be. Mine was silver (with what paint was there) and I repainted it with Argent Silver brake caliper spray paint.

Can anybody remember seeing a TR7 back in the day (so it wouldn't have been repainted) with a light blue cover?

I did work on early TR7s ca 1980 at a small British shop in Vancouver called Wembley Motor Works, and I seem to recall blue valve covers. I am not 100% sure though.
I am really surprised how little info is out there on the early 7's.
It's almost as if they have been ignored. Naw! How can I think that?

Cheers,
Rich
