Creaky Clutch Pedal & Brakes question

Creaky Clutch Pedal & Brakes question

Hi

Just took my car out for a run today and the clutch pedal has started to make a noise like a spring being stretched when I change gear. Is this normal or should I be worried? It had a new slave and master cylinder recently and I wondered if something else was about to go or hadn't been put back properly.

Also it had its MOT recently and passed (yeh!) but had some advisories (doh!) one of which being the brake pads. I was wondering if now might be a good time to uprate the brakes. Can I use uprated pads with standard brakes or do I need to upgrade the whole system?

Any help greatfully received.

Graeme,

Might be worth looking at the spring behind the pedal and check everthing ok e.g. not broken or catching. Check the Clutch fluid level is staying full.

Suggest you bleed your brakes starting from the furthest cylinder to the nearest brake cylinder.

People say the new green pads give you better breaking.

Would be nice to see your car at one of the national at Billing.

My clutch petal started creaking after I changed the clutch master cylinder also. I just don't feel like crawling back in there to oil it. I will fix it when I pull the dast this summer to rebuild the heater.

Graeme, I used Greenstuff pads in my stock TR7 calipers for a while, worked fine. It's not a huge improvement but certainly had more bite when you first hit the pedal.

It's probably the simplest upgrade you can make.

When my pedals have 'creaked' in the past I've just sprayed the springs up with a bit of WD40 - no more creaking!

My guess would be: It's time for some lubrication.

The ultimate solution is (of course) to fit grease nipples into the pivots of the pedals, and then give
them a shot of grease (and a wipe-off!) every spring... The return springs can be (lightly!) oiled with
sewing machine oil to make the slicker/quieter in their movement.
