Apparently Woody's weren't interested. Robsport handled all the distribution to the Triumph dealers and apathy seems to reign just about everywhere. The 'TR8 Car Club of America' had a batch of discs but I think they were already allocated to their prospective purchasers.

In total getting on for 100 copies have gone to the US and so far not a single person has been unable to play the disc. If you have a computer with a DVD drive then the PAL/NTSC format differences do not come into play. Likewise, if you've already got a high definition player of some description I can't see any reason to have a problem. With a batch of discs costing in excess of $2000 it's just not viable to press NTSC discs when the majority of the market is PAL. Having said that, if anyone ever purchases a disc and can't play it I'll burn an NTSC copy on DVD+R and get it over.

Chris, that is the Tony Pond video that has been requested. Is it on DVD or video? If a DVD bring it along to the National Weekend. If it's a video I think I need to convert it to DVD for you.

How do you figure that? Aren't there more TR7s in US, which is NTSC market? But in ether case, US is a HUGE market!

Yes, the US is a bigger market but there's no way into it. If there was a club then perhaps it would be worthwhile but everyone is so spread out there is just no way from here in England I would be able to get shot of 500 NTSC discs. It was hard enough getting the word out over here that the DVD existed. For example, I tried to get the TR Register interested but as far as I know they've done nothing. The TSSC were interested but ultimately a video about a Triumph model was too different and they didn't follow through. Thankfully the TRDC, this web site and Robsport saved the day.

As the different television standards are coming to an end with the advent of the [up to] 1080 line systems there just shouldn't be too much of a problem running PAL mastered material anywhere in the world as time goes on. Also, PC's and MAC's don't see digital video as anything other than digital video - the originating PAL/NTSC standard doesn't come into it.

So cos' I'm no longer working I can't justify sinking over £1,100 into a batch of discs that possibly won't sell. I'm darned surprised at the way the existing discs have sold! But you never know, someone may come along and say they'd order 100 copies if it was NTSC.

I hope this explains the situation and doesn't read too badly. As I said before, if anyone can't play a copy for whatever reason, I'll sort it out.

Thanks for clarifying it, John. This does make more sense!

But surely, there must be a way of doing it! Have you tried appealing to the mailing list? It is the largest collection of US TR7/8 enthusiasts.

The problem with Canada and USA is vertually every mid-sized city and up has their own British car or Triumph club that is not closely associated with any other. That makes hundreds of them. Trying to track them down is a real chore. (I tried it once.) Each one could have as little as half a dozen or could be hundreds. (My own OECC has over 450 members in six chapters in BC, some cities have their own clubs and some their own Triumph clubs not associated with us).

Re the NTSC/Pal thing it's pretty much a thing of the past for any new DVD player. Just after Xmas I went over to a friends house to view the Bullit DVD. His Panasonic 5 disc player wouldn't play it (it was four years old) but he said "wait I've got a new $40 player out in the garage." It worked fine.

grndsm I've emailed every TR7 contact I could lay my hands on. Very few were in the US and Canada though. There just doesn't seem to be a central collection of cars. The TR8 Car Club of America is probably the biggest collection but I believe that is still only about 200 members. Anyone please feel free to correct me with that number! What is needed is worldwide affiliation to a single club dedicated to the TR7 range. A club that has a decent regular magazine, officials to run it, existing membership and enthusiasm.

Chirs, bring that DVD along to the National! I'll supply a copy of Tony Pond competing in the 1978 season and Per Eklund taking over for 1979 in the Mintex rally. We'll just need your Tony Pond pace notes car to finish off the exhibition! How about getting Bert to loan us JJO for a couple of days too?!?

By the way, looks like there's only one copy of the DVD left now! And to that end a call has gone in and Sony are to press a further 500. I'll be coming round with the begging bowl later!

Well your the man Chris but I would make an extra special effort to be there if that was the theme. Might involve some help to get 2 cars there though, it is virtually a 500 mile roundtrip!
