I'm using a similar set up to Wedgie Kway on my V8, but with the adaptor from X-eng. (www.x-eng.co.uk) The thermostatic switch insert they supply is designed to switch one fan on at 88 degrees C and off at 83. It has a second pair of terminals which switch on at 92 and off at 87. My fans seem to stay on forever once they are on. I'm running with an 82 degree stat.

What switch values are other using?

What is the temp setting for the switch? Interesting that the fan is a puller through the rad - have you checked it [:)] My Kenlowe is a pusher, and has to go in the front of the rad. The switch I use is a 97-93 degrees C. As the UK thermostat is an 88C, you have to be somewhat higher than that figure. Here is a picture of my spare rad (all newish and for sale for lots of money):

BTW, I haven't used a relay, just the switch. Seems fine for the last 15 years or so .....

Hi,
Thanks again for all the info. I think I will go for the top hose adaptor fitted with a 22mm fan thermo switch from a modern car. It sounds like the easiest option.
Cheers

I have a 10" fan switched via a top hose adaptor at 195/185F.
It has worked fine over the cooler months and hardly ever comes on, but I have a feeling that a bigger fan may be required for the summer. I do like the idea of the staggered starts for 2 fans. I may even try 2 fans with one on the t-stat and the other manual for those anxious moments sitting in traffic.

You should of course go for the neatest, and most elegant, solution. Engineers vise... [8D]

Good luck with it. Total cost for hose T-piece, thermoswitch and relay should be around £30.

Nice looking Mk 3 you have there. Amazing how many Spitfire owners also end up with a 7!

Were we separated at birth, Danny?

Nice shade of green BTW, looks great with the gold alloys. Pageant blue is not a very inspiring colour, but I fancy adding green and yellow to create an 80's-esque Bennetton colour scheme...
