Just got an e mail from Richard Connew lettin me know my annual
sub is due.I've been paying this for the past two years,but really
wonder if i should continue.I know its only a tenner plus card levies
but i hardly look on there these days as this forum is far more
absorbing and entertaining.
I realise that he has put alot of effort into the site with many
video's to watch,but i would rather see Billy's latest adventures
and we suddenly have alot of photo's of our own on here - well done
every one for that.
Also,i have tried and tried to put my wedgie details on his site,
but have nothing to show for it.Actually,i hav'nt looked on there
for a long while,maybe they're shown now.
Anyway,i think i shall give it a miss this time.What do you think?

I would concur with you on that one Paul. In no way would I say that there is not a place for that site, in fact I have two web based business's and I can fully appreciate the amount of work that has gone into the club but I also find myself hardly using it. As you say it is only a tenner which is neither here or there in the big scheme of things but I am also drawn to the interaction of the forum rather than trawling individual sites just picking out bits of info. I know this forum has its origins with tr7.com and waringstown but I hardly ever visit those sites either. It may be controversial but it would make sence to tack this forum onto Richards site which has its own hardly used forum.

Now I've lit the touchpaper maybe I should stand back and watch the fireworks.

But I know all about Richards's site but I don't think you should have to pay to go on a site especially when other sites which are as good as or even better

I let mine lapse but have just rejoined again. I agree with all you say but I figure that at £10 it is worth it. What can you get for £10 these days? 2 gals petrol/2 cod & chips/2 packets of fags... it's worth more than any of those when all the other TR7/8 stuff on the web has already been viewed and you don't know where else to feed your addiction!

Making anything a "pay site" (regardless of how little it is), changes the dynamics of the site/club. I am a strong believer that you should keep it free and then, if necessary, ask for donations or try to get sponsors.

Otherwise, there is simply too much free competition

But, it is Richard's site and he can do as he whishes

I did the same as Steve - let my membership lapse & then rejoined a little while ago, basically to see what new stuff was on there. Don't look at it very often though.

I don't think you can really compare an interactive forum like this one with a pay site that is primarily for information.

Don't get me wrong, the site is full of interesting & informative stuff. I like it but I do agree with Leon that it would be better as a free site & ask for donations or sponsors to support the running costs.

They are talking about the World Wide TR7-TR8 Club (www.tr7-tr8.com). I joined originally when I bought the car but the forum appeared totally inactive but it is probably good if you are a historian as it has a lot of data.
I then found this site and appeciated the activity so joined the TRDC (thinking it was one). I think the forum is the best but I have to say that TRDC seems rather concentrated in the north with little activity or representation in the south. At all the shows I attended last year unfortunately TRDC was not represented at all, unlike the TR Register.

I should add to my post above that I appreciate the time and effort it takes the club organisers to run things, its just that somehow nobody down here, including me, seems to have the time. Problem of being a southerner I guess.

Hi Alan

If you would like to stay in touch with me, there is quite a bit going on with the TRDC in Kent and Essex. We cover a fair area but do quite a few "outings" in Kent. T.Wells is not that far from Bromley and we were there "in force" last year, sadly not this year as the new organisers have asked for a monumental Club deposit. Things like the "Darling Buds" run is on together with the Chatham to Margate "Bucket and Spade" run, the Medway festival of Steam & Transport, Ravenscroft School to name but a few. I generally organize at least one day trip to Brands Hatch for Classic Car Racing plus I am also very involved with SEMSEC Marshalling at Lydden and Brands race tracks. (At least 8 races at Lydden this year and all are welcome.)

Just ask and you can be kept informed.

Hi,
It seams that i too are like the rest of you gents,have jioned and left and then rejioned. Going to give it a miss this year,the 'ezine' type thing that was on there a few years ago were good,except an article that seamed to attack the TRDC [:(!] ,but then you had to pay for them. I too posted my details on there but never got added.
Find this forum the best on the net, i am registered on other but to be honest never posted on them,does not seem to be the same amount and different types of posting as you get from you guys.

Alan you do have a point,living in Bedfordshire nowt much happening with the TRDC, i beleive the Register have local meetings down here[?] as do Club Triumph BUT we always have (rain allowing [;)] ) BILLING to look forward to [8D] [:D]
