BONNET STAY QUERY

Hi all, i know this is an old chestnut of mine but how can you fix the bonnet stay to the turret itself if the insert thats in the turret that holds the stay in place once screwed on isnt there?

You could try welding a nut in the hole. An 8mm flange nut should do the job, should sit in hole without dropping through.

Thanks Phil, i had though along similar lines, what should be in that hole to hold the bonnet stay in place do you know?

It's a tube with a thread up the middle and i think 4 fingers, or tags.
The problem is it can spin in the hole, or drop out.
Also an 8mm bolt with a shoulder might work in the 8mm nut.
And use washers as spacers to take up any side play.
Thats if you do not have the original bolt.
Sometimes you have to improvise.

If its the partI think you mean Rimmers list it a 'Jacknut (lower)- ZKC2228'. Shown available for 55p+ (although listed on site under Bonnet Assemble & Fittings as for a foglight!).

Hi alan , have a jacknut in amomst all my bits and pieces, but how do you keep the thing from fallin out of the turret? does it have to be welded in?

Steve,

Put the Jacknut in the hole, hold it in with your fingers, screw the bolt into the Jacknut, once the screw starts collapsing the Jacknut it will then hold itself into the hole.Screw the bolt until it has collapsed fully and then remove the bolt, the Jacknut will remain in place.

Out of curiousty steve, which side does the jack nut go through?, it seems to me that if it goes through the side the engine is it wont hold on, so i had a look thorugh were the wheel side is and think if it went that side then put the screw in through the engine side it would stay in place, im prob totally wrong in that but i am having probns with this daft i know
